"A good looking headset for the price but far too much static."

by Muddy Paws on June 19, 2007

Pros: easy to set up, inexpensive, sleek design

    Cons: too much static

Summary: This is my third Bluetooth headset. You're probably wondering, "What happened to your second one, Criteeker?" It's a sad story, really. I left my Treo Bluetooth headset in my center console's cupholder. That was no big deal except for the fact that I left my SUV's skylight open just a crack and it had lightly rained the night before. When I got to my car, the damage was already done. My Treo headset was now in a mini Jacuzzi of electronic death. I let it "dry" for four days thinking it would resolve itself if I didn't turn it on or try to charge it. Nope - and now it's on its way to electronics heaven.

    Things I Love:

It's a very sleek design with its dark gray and silver, albeit quite phallic. It's lightweight enough not to bother me while using it. I can her my caller and the musical ringtone quite well. My callers can hear me well enough.

The initial setup couldn't be easier. Charge it. Push the power button until the L.E.D. light stays on (discovery mode). Then tell your Bluetooth-enabled phone to search for it. After it's found the headset, you're ready to use it. It's that simple.

The ear wrap (typically found on most headsets) keeps the unit in place while the ear speaker has a small nub that's supposed to rest inside the ear canal and keep it in place. It might be nice if the ear speaker had a variety of rubber inserts to make the ear piece more comfortable over longer periods of use.

When the phone rings, instead of beep tones in your ear, you hear "Ride of the Valkyries" tune.

Things I'm on the Fence About:

I don't like the control button. It's got far too many functions for one small button and can get a bit annoying. It governs volume call receiving, call rejecting, voice dialing, redial and call making & ending. On other models, I had separate volume control buttons.

    Things I DO NOT Like:

Too much static. My callers complain of static from my end and I hear static on my end.

It doesn't come with a car charger. The model 350 does, however.

While I have no problem with the way it fits into my ear canal, after a long period of wear, it does become a bit uncomfortable. Wish it had rubber ear pieces.

    Final Thoughts:

With a price of about $52.99 (you can find this on the net for about $35) this thing is just too noisy. Are there better Bluetooth headsets out there? Certainly. There are headsets that offer better sound quality, less static interference and better voice transmission of your voice, but they are almost double in price. If you use a Bluetooth headset each and every day, I would suggest looking elsewhere. But for someone who might need it on occasion, this is a safe bet.

Note for desert dwellers: This product will not perform in heat above 104 degrees.
