"Nice little headset that's quite affordable." on by samsingha

Pros: Good sound, good size, easy to use.

Cons: May not fit everyone nicely.

Summary: I bought this for my wife on Black Friday 2006 for 1/2 price of $25. You don't need to go fight the crow, just order it on-line for around $35. At that time, it just came out or something and I thought it was actually the Explorer 320.

It connected easily to the RAZR and the sound quality is quite good. I noticed some static but that did not ruin the conversation at all. One time my wife used it to call me and I didn't even know she was using it until she told me. I heard her nice and clear. I also have the Plantronics Discovery 655 and this sure sounds better, however, I'll take the 340 as a back-up headset any day.

It is easy to set up and the controls are easy to use and learn. The size is not too big. I have seen bigger headsets which I think look funny, not my style. This one is sleek and cool looking, IMHO.

The fit may not be perfect for everyone. This headset is the in-the-ear type and you cannot change the plug like the 655, so, I feel that the fit is not too perfect for me. However, having the ear loop, it helps keep the headset on and you don't have to worry about it falling off.

I think this headset is very good for this price range. I have read reviews of more expensive headsets that people said were just awful. This one, IMHO, is quite good.

The battery lasts okay, too. So, if you use it occasionally during the day, you won't have to recharge it too often.

"Excellent In-Door Piece with NO Noise canceling" on by v8only

Pros: Small, perfect fit, high volume, fantastic sound quality both ways

Cons: No Noise canceling, can only use in quiet environments

Summary: First off, I'm a field tech for a major telecommunications wireless company. For this reason, I use my blue tooth 8-10 hours a day 5 days a week. I use it indoors, outdoors, in noisy environments, quiet environments, you name it.

My Plantronics Voyager 510 had just died, and I was looking for a cheap replacement. (BTW, the 510 was the best piece I had tried to date). In comparison, the 340's battery lasted 3 times as long. I could go 3-4 days between charges, vs the 1-2 days with the 510. Fit was strange at first, but now it's perfect, and I forget I'm wearing it.

At first, call quality was excellent both ways, just like the 510. But then I got OUT of my truck. That's when hell began. No way, no how is ANYONE going to understand a word you're saying unless you're in a sound free environment, such as a newer car or quiet office environment. I've been using it a month now, and inside the truck, great. However, whenever I get out, the phone is once again stapled to the side of my face. For this reason, I've picked up another bluetooth, and tonight will get a chance to try out my new voyager 520 WITH sound cancelation.

If you're the type that works in a quite environment, and wants an excellent cheap piece, this is it. If you work around noise, have kids, or wear it outside of your vehicle, then you'll need to upgrade to a device with sound cancelation.

"One of the best headsets I have purchased." on by jdwilliams1231

Pros: Headset pairs easy. Stays connected until you disconnect it. Sounds great in noisy conditions. Volume is loud, can adjust up or down from side. Earhook and earabud helps it stay in place. Lightweight.

Cons: Noticed that range distance fades out way before 30 feet unless phone is near you. No car charger, but 8 hour talk time.

Summary: I have had a Jabra, who makes very nice headsets, but gave it up because my model took to long to connect. I have had a Motorola hs500, low volume, buttons get stuck, no earhook adjustment, but maintained good range. Now have the plantronics Explorer 340. Would like to step up to 655 discovery, but for the money, this is great.

"Durable, comfortable headset at a great price" on by brightwood83

Pros: Solid, durable, fits comfortably in my ear, stays put, won't fall off. Holds charge well with lots of talk time. Stays paired to my phone and doesn't drop bluetooth connection like other headsets.

Cons: Minimal noise suppression causes audio quality to degrade in noisy environments. Also a little smaller than I'd like. Would prefer longer mike boom and perhaps over-the-head option.

Summary: I bought mine over 2 years ago when they sold for $80+, and have been satisfied with it ever since. I vastly prefer it over my other headset, an Aliph Jawbone 2 that's caused me nothing but frustration. At $80+ the Explorer 340 was a good solid headset that I've been very happy with for 2+ years. At current prices under $25 it's an outstanding value!

"The 340: same model as the 350" on by cnofal

Pros: Price (with rebates), Solid build, Good looks

Cons: Stiff multi-function button, Static, Crackles at high volume, no car or USB connector

Summary: The Explorer 340 is exactly like the 350, except the 350 has a USB cable, and a car charger with a cool vent clip used to hold the headset while it charges. The 340 only comes with an AC charger and I don't really need the AC charger, since I'm always near a PC. Its worth the few extra dollars for the accessories to buy the 350.

I bought the Explorer ($20 with Compusa rebates) to replace my faithful Motorola H820 which could no longer hold a descent charge after a year of use. The 350 is louder than H820, but at high volume it crackles and pierces my eardumb like a broken cheap speaker.

The Explorer produced more static noise than the H820. The best reception occured when less than 2 feet away, and when positioned on the same side of your body as the cell phone.

I found the Explorer to be moderately comfortable. It was a bit awkward and time consuming to put on, as you had to slip the ear hook on first, then position the earpiece into a comfortable position. Not easy to do when trying to anwser a call quickly.

The multi-function button on the Explorer is small and VERY hard to push in. This causes problems when the headset is on your ear since pushing the button applies pressure to the ear. You will have to firmly grip the headset between your thumb and middle finger and then use your index finger to press the buttons. If you don't grip the headset and try to push the buttons the pressure on your ear is painful. On the plus side, the button is very easy to find by touch.

Paring the Explorer was easy, but maintaining a constant connection was challenging. If moved to a charger, or left alone over night, it would fall into a deep sleep and was difficult to awaken. Tapping the talk button several times would eventually wake it up to answer an incoming call.
