  • "Top Notch Headset!"
    on by WilliamRivera

    Pros + Great sound clarity
    + Great voice clarity
    + Nice looking
    + Very Long Battery Life
    + Fairly Comfortable
+ Good controls for volume and power
    + Easy to connect
    + Very good range

Cons - Plantronics should have included a vehicle charger in this kit.
    - Noise cancelling is OK, but fails badly when outdoors in windy conditions

Summary I purchased this headset about two months ago and while it took a little getting used to, it compares favorably with the only other headset I've used, the Motorola HS850.

Comfort: The soft rubber ear channel and rigid/soft rubber hanger combo allows long term wearing. I sometimes forget it's on. The firmness of the control switch requires more than average pressure to toggle, but it's rigid construction far outweighs any comfort or ease of use concerns.

Sound quality: The soft rubber ear piece channels the speaker's sound into the ear canal, and while not a tight fit provides clear and ample volume. In quiet environments the speaker volume can be lowered. The windscreen and noise cancellation features are adequate, but any microphone without a physical windscreen or advanced DSP noise cancellation will transmit "pink noise" to the listener in windy conditions.

Battery life: Excellent. While not timed, I charge once every 4-5 days with 2-3 hours talk time per day.

Bluetooth range: The only area the Motorola HS850 bettered the 520. Using a Nokia 6682 mobile on AT&T, the phone must stay within about 10 feet of the headset or the signal starts crackling.

Construction: This is a well made unit which I can put into my blue jeans pocket without worrying about the case, switch or rubber being abused.

Best value in a head set I could find, and I'm a research-a-holic, highly recommended.

  • "Quite impressed; an outstanding value in a small, comfortable earpiece that doesn't look too flashy"
    on by dutchvliet

Pros Conversation quality on both ends in various environments; lightweight and comfortable; easy pairing

Cons A bit difficult to adjust volume during a call with one hand

Summary I purchased the 520 after having troubles with five different devices that wouldn't work properly with my Moto Q. I borrowed a friend's older 320 and it worked, but the mic was uni-directional and there was no noise canceling or wind screen. I looked at some of the higher-end Plantronics devices, but was worried about customer reviews regarding charging.

I picked up the 520 almost as soon as it was released and have very few negative comments. It is lightweight and very comfortable. I like the small "hook" on the earpiece as it makes the device feel more stable. The earhook sort of snaps into place, keeping the device close to your face. I noticed that the editors thought it was a bit dull in appearance. I enjoy wearing a device that doesn't make me look like I belong in a sci-fi movie or like I'm a telemarketer.

I've used it in many different environments including times of high wind, where it performed as good or better than any other device I've used (I've used bluetooth earpieces for over four years). I listen to mp3's softly while I work in my office through my 520 and I still get a day's and night's use out of a charge (wish I could say the same for my Q!) and have no issues with comfort.

I've had no complaints from people on the other end about sound quality, and when I ask they say that they can't tell that I'm using an earpiece at all. For my part, I can hear their voices very well, even with a lot of background noises around me.

    Impressive... most impressive.

  • "Excellent performer!"
    on by ShelW

Pros Sound quality, noise/wind reduction, comfort

Cons No USB connection for charging

Summary This is an excellent bluetooth headset. Very comfortable to wear... soft rubber hook, ear bud is also soft and comfortable to use, while blocking out external noise.

Battery life is exceptional... easily lasts two, three days of heavy use.

While not the smallest headset, the 520 delivers on sound quality in both directions, comfort and battery life. Also, the multi function button, used to change volume levels as well as receive/disconnect/transfer calls and activate voice dialing is a good size, and easy to access.

Check this one out... you won't be disappointed!

  • "Works well generally, but painful."
    on by wesmain

Pros Good sound, broad volume range

Cons Static. People complain that I sound distant, like I'm using speakerphone. Earbud hurts after more than a few minutes.

Summary The problem with the sound quality may be a result of the bluetooth on my cell phone (a motorola RIZR). Can't say for sure, I'd need to try it on another phone. But the earbud, the part that sticks into your ear, becomes quiet painful for me after more than a few mintues. It's just too big and wide. I wish it had different size earbuds like some headphones do.

I will say that the volume is good, I can hear others well. It also does not bounce around as much as my old earpeice, one that does not have an earbud that sticks into your ear. It stays in place as you move around.

  • "works well with htc mogul ppc 6800"
    on by tbrown75

    Pros works as advertised

Cons little low on volume on user's side

Summary I just upgraded to the htc mogul from a nokia 6255i and realized that the mogul did not get along with my old motorola h500 bluetooth headset. I decided to do some research and there were lots of posts complaining about the mogul's bluetooth stack blah blah blah. I decided to see what the Voyager would do for me and I can't complain. For this particular phone, there may be many bluetooth headsets that do not work well (I owned one), but I can say the voyager 520 is great so far, even in my noisy honda civic at 65 mph (haven't been any faster yet). It may simply be the fact that it uses bluetooth 2.0 which the phone likes. I can say that the voyager is very comfortable for my ear, but everyone is built differently.
