"pleasantly surprised..."4.0 starson by tiguy99
Pros: Call clarity
Cons: Volume could be a hair louder
Wind filtering could be better
Summary: I was ready to give this headset 2 star rating based on all the 1-2 star reviews I've read. Surprisingly, the ratings on this bluetooth are so polarizing its almost like 2 different versions exist...
Where is the quality control @ Plantronics?
Ok...on with the review...
Alot of folks are complaining of short range and crackling sounds on this unit. I was expecting the same thing with my unit but must have gotten a good headset.
Tonight I left my phone (Motorola Atrix HD 4.1.2 w/ HoloBlur ROM) charging upstairs in my bed room and walked downstairs, took my dog outside to use the restroom while talking with my wife.
I made it about 27-28 feet before I heard the first crackle & shiver call effect. This was similar range to my old Jawbone Icon bluetooth. I am liking what I see so far.
Call clarity is clear with full voice quality. I enjoyed what I heard. It wasn't treble friendly sound like the Jawbone Icon but still very usable.
I found the in Call volume to be good but would prefer if it were a touch louder.
One thing I'll admit, before I used the bluetooth, I installed the software on my laptop and launched the firmware updater. My unit already had .44 version loaded which as of 9-4-13 is the latest edition.
While using the PC app, I turned off the smart sensor feature which some folks have complained about stating in this mode, the bluetooth can tend to automatically disconnect itself mid call (not good). We'll see how this option pans out in the next few days
Did a road test...using 2 phones
1. Motorola Atrix HD
2. iPhone 4
Using both phones, the test consisted of driving on the highway @ 70 MPH with the radio @ various volumes & a window test. The Window test consisted of no windows open, 1 window, 2 windows & all 4 windows.
Radio volume filtering was excellent on both phones.
Wind was good on both phones for 1 window down driving @ 70 MPH.
With 2 windows down, I couldn't hear my voice on the recording while using the iphone. I could still hear my voice fine on the Atrix HD
All 4 windows down made it impossible to hear my voice on the iphone 4 while I could still hear myself talking on the Atrix HD.
The last bit of info for you guys =
The Voice Volume transmitted seemed louder on the iPhone 4 vs the Atrix HD. It wasn't night & day but it was maybe 5-10% louder as far as what other callers will hear. Not sure why....
Either way, I find it to be a good headset. Take the time to find a good headset & turn off the Smart feature I mentioned earlier & you'll be fine.
Thanks for your submission!
