"Feature rich, jury out on comfort."2.5 starson by TonyLP2007
Pros: Great for using with phone and PC. Easily identifiable controls. Caller announcing is great.
Cons: Possibly over-hyped on comfort. Talk time is mediocre compared to smaller Plantronics set. Hiccups on sound quality and range.
Summary: I'm a heavy user of BT headsets and splurged on the Legend after losing my Plantronics M20, which was great overall.
In comparison, my first impression of the Legend was the bulk of the rubber earpiece. While lighter than it looks, I can't justify the extensive reviews of amazing comfort for this model. Experimenting with different ear gels included, I cannot get a fit that doesn't make the Legend feel heavy and hurt my ear. In contrast, I could sometimes wear the M20 for half a day and barely know I had it on.
Sound quality is good, although I have found some calls to get spotty reception from iPhone to headset. The range is also minimal; I've been able to walk across my house with the M20, away from my iPhone, and get consistent sound quality until signaled I am out of range. On the Legend, walking a few feet away causes calls to gain quick static. Talk time was longer on the M20 as well-- I needed to charge only every 4-5 days, with moderate to heavy use. The Legend needs to be hooked up noticeably more often.
Noise cancellation is mediocre. I have not experienced any advantage over the M20 when it comes to calling from a car or street environment. I think a factor of this is the ear fit as well.
A big plus of the Legend is easily identifiable buttons for power, volume and mute. It's hard to confuse controls on this set, with clearly felt switches for power, volume and mute.
A great feature is the in-ear caller ID, announcing callers a la Siri from your iPhone contacts. The Legend lives up to its brand promise as the most technically advanced headset. Features are rich and the accompanying InstaMeeting app for iPhone is a great tool for those who do tons of conference calls. The app loads conference call info from iCal, etc. and will both remind you of upcoming conference calls, dial them for you (along with participant code info) and also let you email/text your party if you are running late.
Given that comfort is a struggle and talk time and sound quality can vary in my experience with this so far, the only reason I have not returned this set is because of its accompanying USB Dongle and ability (untested for me as of yet) to use Dragon Dictation on my Mac. A combination phone/dictation headset is a priority for me; If I can't achieve it with the Legend than the Marque 2 might have to be a consideration.
