"For $50, it stands as a less-risky upgrade from stock."3.0 starson by bumstah
Pros: -Bass is clear and present.
-Treble is surprisingly clearer than expected.
-Comes with a handy carrying case.
-Sleeker, more daring designs than its cheaper counterparts that may impress some.
Cons: -Bass is definitely there, but not clearly defined.
-If your budget allows it, you may want to just invest $50 and get twice the better headphones.
-Not the most durable earphones you'll find.
Summary: First and foremost, I don't consider myself an audiophile but I love my bass, so if you're looking to upgrade from stock earphones with a little more bass, look no further. I compared the 50/50 Skullcandy with some stock skullcandys I bought from bestbuy for about $20 on a couple of bass heavy songs (Bulletproof remix by Chrispy, Becoming Insane by Infected Mushroom, Drop it like it's Hot by Snoop). At first, you can definitely notice the bass in the 50/50, it is much more louder and has a prominent presence than stock earphones. The bass delivers boldy (remember to test them on high quality music, perhaps on a CD or an authentic iTunes file, do NOT test on youtube audios unless they are at least 480p or higher).
Using the 50/50s for about an hour, your head may start to ring a bit. You cannot enjoy the bass unless you crank up the volume a little higher than usual, or if you set your audio device (i'm using my pc and iphone by the way) accordingly to your taste.
The bass sounds pretty muddled. I don't know much about highs and lows in bass, but generally all the bass just sounds loud and explosive. Don't get me wrong, if your not anal about all the tiny details of bass, this shouldn't be a problem at all. And in all honesty, even for $50, you can't expect the most crisp quality from the bass.
Alas, the biggest problem of these 50/50s are that, well, they sit at $50. Surely, if you're going to invest $50 in headphones, you might as well pay a couple bucks more and get some higher tier headphones/earphones.
Its difficult, but I loved my $20 Skullcandy and use them for about 2 years. I love their products and I thought I owed them enough to at least try out the 50/50s, and so far it's been enjoyable. If you're like me and your tired of cheap earphones, don't skip out on the 50/50s, it may be nice to try them out before you decide to invest in more expensive earphones/headphones accessory ;)
