"Worst product ever - should not be on the market"0.5 starson by rlblackburn
Pros: Tiny form factor
Cons: It doesn't work in real life.
Abysmal customer service.
Summary: I will never buy another Sony Ericsson product again.I've never had the problem adjusting the volume on my iPhone 3GS that others have mentioned. The iPhone volume controls have always just worked.
I bought one of these last fall and was happy enough with it that we bought another in the household for Christmas. The Christmas present was dead out of the box. The retailer referred us to Sony-Ericsson who did replace the unit.
Since Christmas, the two units have been replaced a total of 5 times, and one is dead again a week after it arrived. 7 failures in 7 months. I don't do anything unexpected with them - I put them in my ears and mow the lawn, lift weights, or just sit in the car. I don't even do anything as violent as running.
There are a few different failure modes, but I've seen some more than once, and all result in a device that does not produce sound.
Customer service is painful and unreliable. You must send in proof of purchase before they will provide an RMA.
You will be told they will call you when they have verified your purchase. They will not.
The first time I was told I must FAX them the proof of purchase. Fairly inconvenient. On subsequent call, after asking, I found that they do accept scanned copies via email.
Caution - they don't read their email. One time I was told they did not contact me because they did not have the information that was in the email. Apparently they had only looked at the attachment, not the body of the email itself.
The U.S. mail address they give you over the phone differs from the one in the return instructions they email to you - every time.
They don't tell you they will be emailing instructions (which often don't arrive until the next day).
One (1) time, they actually emailed me a return shipping label that would have covered shipping costs - but they didn't tell me they would do so and it did not come until after I had already shipped the unit. So, useless.
Even after all of these failures and having expressed my dissatisfaction in the strongest terms, they refuse to refund my money. Instead, they insist on perpetuating this cycle of both parties having to spend time and money on exchanging a product that obviously should not be on the market. The last time I was told they would substitute a different model for one of my units (both were broken at the same time). That didn't happen.
I have lost all respect for Sony as a consumer electronics company and will never buy a product with a Sony or Ericsson label on it again.

It does suffer from short audio drop-outs from time to time.
Both volume control and the drop-outs, of course, only happen when the unit is working at all, which isn't often.
