"Excellent Sounding Headset! Reviewing 2010 Version!"
on by RedFoxEXR4Pros 2010 Models Pros:
- Now requires only 1 Power Supply instead the earlier 2.
- Breakaway Cables added.
- Earlier Mic Issues Fixed. Mic Attachment is now Flexible instead of solid.
- Xbox360 Mic Cable Replaced with different type. (Have not tested)Cons 2010 Models Cons:
- No way to turn off lights for Night Time movie watching.
- No inputs for Wii still or any device without a TOS Ouput or 5.1 analog ouput.
- No Off Switch for the Headset/Volume Controls. (Must unplug via Power Cable Break)Summary I am reviewing the 2010 Model of Tritton AX Pro 5.1. Mainly focusing on the 2010 improvements of this headset. As I stated in the Pros, two major issues were addressed. The Mic Issue, which caused the mic to stop responding due to poor connectors/faulty wires and the power adapters which now requires just 1 adapter.
CORRECTION: It was pointed out to in the reply box that you CAN turn off the Headset/Volume Control. After locating my manual for these headet, it does list a way to turn off the unit by doing the following (as explained by the manual):
Sadly though, I have yet to test out the mic feature on Xbox LIVE. I have heard that earlier models have had static issues between the cable that goes from the volume control box to the Xbox360 Controller Mic Port. So for the 2010 Models, Tritton shipped out a different looking cable it seems from the earlier models. Hopefully these new cables fixed this issue. However using it on the PS3, it works very good. No issues of the Headset detecting the mic attachment and the mic piece is now flexible so you can position it the way you want it. Earlier models had a silver solid piece.
The headsets are still heavy but for someone like me, its not too bad. I'm not too sure if its actually lighter then the older models so assume that they weigh the same for now.
As for the sound, supposedly the 2010 Models have new adjusted speaker position for even "truer" 5.1 Surround Sound. Again I could not tell a difference due to the source material I have on hand. Though please make note that the new speaker position may be worse or better compared to earlier models. But I imagine it is all about personal prefrences at the end.
In terms of performance, it took a while of adjustments to get the full 3D effects that I wanted. For me settings, I made the surround sound speakers delay maxed out, left the center delay the same. For the volume control, the sub was one color "louder" then the rest but just barely. From there the sounds were brillant! (Additional notes: You may want to adjust the loudness on the Digital Box to be slightly louder while keeping your volume controls colors below red. If you have to put the volume levels on the red, check your video source to see if there is a volume control there and raise that a bit so that you can lower the color on your volume controls.)
For those wondering if you truly can't get a Wii to work on these headsets, it really depends on what hardware you have available. For me, I can get the Wii to work with these headsets using the TOS Output from my HDTV. However I was unable to get a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal at all through these method even if the audio was passed through the TV via HDMI such as with a PS3 or Xbox360. If you have better audio hardware, you maybe able to fix these issues.
The final two notes I want to make about these headsets is the lack of off switch for the actual Headset/Volume Controls and the lights. The Audio Box itself has an off button but for some reason no such feature can be found on the Headset and Volume Controls. I found that I had to get up and unplug the power cable near the Audio Box itself to turn it off. As for the lights, as nice as they are during the day and playing games, when watching a movie, they can be very distracting. They are bright lights and there are several of them. I can only hope that in future models they will address these minor issues.
Overall though, I am very pleased with the 2010 Models that were released. As of these writing availability is a bit harder to come by at retail stores where you can check to see if you are buying 2010 Models. (Tip: The mic adapter on the headset should be black instead of silver. If its silver, its an older model which I recommend you not purchase since my review is based on the new models.) If you order these online, good luck! Though by now I would assume most are the new 2010 Models.

To turn off AX Pro, press the Master Mute button, and Front Channel select button simultaneously.
I would like to thank playboli for pointing this mistake out for me. (As well as saving me the trouble of unplugging/plugging my headset each time!) -
"i have no idea what anyone is talking about"
on by twiztidhatchetPros GREAT sound, Easy set up. Very comfortable
Cons the mic thats it
Summary i have to write this. i dont know what all these problems are that people are having the only thing i can think of is there are throwing them off a hill to see how durable they are. i got mine the day they went on sale and i have never had a problem with them i have stepped on them and the left ear cup popped out i just popped it back in to place and i have a 3 year old who gets her hands on them all the time and they still work. to the guy with a big head and glasses i have both and i wear these for 4-6 hour game sessions and have no problems at all. and i have had great customer support i called for the longer mic and it didn't show up called them back they apologized sent out a new one and i got both in about 5 days i don't know if your screaming at them when you call but i like the customer support.and about the mic thing i didnt really like the longer mic so i went on turtle beach website http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx4a/replacementparts.aspx (i know i know its the competition) and bought the x4 replacement boom mic and it works like a charm.

"Tritton AX Pro (The Truth)"
on by shadowkillaaPros Great sound quality
Speakers are positioned very well.. so you can hear which direction the noise is coming from.. i can also hear if the sound is coming from ground level or higher above
Lights on the headphones are vey coolCons The fluffy ear pads do get very warm after continues use.. I use the leather ear pads.Headphones and volume controller become warm after use.
Microphone is not good at allSummary [Set up]
.Set-up is a little confusing if your setting it up for the first time.. but there are diagrams which explain it well
[volume controller]
.Is very simple to use. (when reading other reviews, i never understood how you can adjust the separate volume channels.. You press the button representing the channel that you want to adjust, such as subwoofer, rear, front or centre. . then there is a switch on the side of the controller that you flick up or down to turn that channel up or down.. (Different colours represent the volume. (green is the lowest and Red is the highest.. there is also blue, cyan etc... i cant remember what they stand for though . .there is also a separate volume wheel that makes the sound of people talking on xbox live louder.
[De-coder box]
.Most of the wires connect into this box.. it is very light in weight and has many other options to customise your sound experience even more... but i haven't touched these controls yet.
[Bass]
.Before buying these headphones I was worried that there wouldn?t be as much BASS as I wanted.. (I like bass that shakes my head) . . but when the volume isn?t cranked up to the fullest and the subwoofer is turned up to the fullest.. it almost makes my ears uncomfortable.. (which is good)
[Wires]
.There is a lot of wires, and they can get very messy? if you mainly want to use these headphones for guitar hero.. then this headset is not for you (because the amount of wires hanging off of you will become very irritating.) . . but they are great for FPS.
[Microphone]
.I am not sure about other consoles, but when using the mic for the xbox 360, it is complete rubbish? As soon as I plug the mic into the headphones people start complaining about a very loud static sound.. and they can hardly hear my voice. (very disappointing)
Other that the microphone everything else is very pleasing.
Only for the sound, I would rate these headphones 10/10
But my rating for the sound including the microphone is 8.5/10 . . because the microphone is a big part of these headphones. -
"Amazing sound....incredibly unreliable"
on by sicr3wPros Great sound, I've yet to find anything that even comes close.
Cons A LOT of wiring. Constant issues with microphone and useless customer support.
Summary I want so badly to recommend this product, but I just can not. Like i previously said, the sound is worth the price, and if I was using this headset without the mic, I would have given it 5 stars. Unfortunately, I have been having issues with the microphone and voice over x box live since approx. a week after I purchased it, this was about five months ago. The mic cuts out constantly, this is compounded by terrible crackling from the mic cord moving around. I LITERALLY can not move when I am playing a game without the mic crakling...loudly, then cutting out. Usually, it will come back on after a few seconds, but occasionnally it shuts off for good. I have been in contact with customer support since it first happened about a week after I purchased it ( five months ago). The first instance they sent me a new cord that runs from the headset to the inline volume control. They were incredibly helpful and the support guy told me he already knew of this problem...it took about a week and half to get the new cord. The cord did nothing to improve my situation. A couple of weeks after that I entered a support ticket on their website, they did not respond, so after waiting two weeks, I called again and they told me they knew of the problem and were getting an even newer cord and that I could be put on a waiting list to receive it...I said fine (and I still haven't recieved it). Approx two weeks after this I received an email from them that stated they were having issues with their support tickets online (this was four 1/2 weeks after the original email) and they wanted to know if I was still having issues. I told them I was and that, to be honest, I was completely fed up and tried to explain to them how bad their reputation was becoming since so many of the people I play with were aware of the issue I was having. They replied with an email requesting my personal info so they could resolve this right away...that was 8 days ago. SInce then... no call, no more emails, no snail mail...nothing. Again, I want to reiterate how long I waited to write this review, how I gave them the benefit of the doubt and the opportunity to correct this over and over again. Due to these factors I absolutely do NOT recommend this product for online gaming, if you play solo or want it for movies, go for it, however, if youre a hardcore gamer, if your ranked, in a clan, on GB and/or mlg, look elsewhere, these aren't for you. As for me, if some type of miracle doesn't happen this week, I'm getting astros. Tritton knows of the problem, this is NOT an isolated instance, and they continue selling them, that my friends, is the bottom line.

"SUPER UNRELIABLE"
on by kracraniumPros GOOD SOUND
GOOD VOICE CONTROLCons CHEAP INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL COMPONENTS
TOO MANY WIRES
UNRELIABLE (BREAKS EASILY)
MIC HAS LIMITED MOBILITYSummary I have owned 2 AX360s and 1 AXPRO and I have had so send the AXPRO 2 times to get replaced!!! The internal mic connection fails and they have had to replace the headset every time!!I would rather use my AX360 even though they don't reproduce any base and the only way to control the in-game voice is to raise the center channel.I don't know you but I rather have a product that is not so good but reliable than something that breaks in 1 month and sounds good.By the way the first time I sent them in was because they already came with the same problem. The second time it happened I was using them and they just stopped receiving any sound through the mic. I bought various 2.5mm to 2.5mm male extension cables the first time it happened cause I though it was a faulty cable they brought only to find out that the problem was within the actual headset (confirmed by the fact that the company replaced my headset with a new pair). It actually feels like the company rushed into launching them and didn't actually test the product.
