Pros DVR, output to the TV from the Archos, functionality,
Cons None really
Summary This is a great buy for the best PMP on the market, bar none. I would highly suggest it as it not only does the obvious of doubling your Archos as a DVR, but it also provides a very easy place for you to charge your archos and is very useful for playing videos on your archos on the TV or showing pictures from your PC on the TV (even wirelessly). Simply put, it's an amazing addition to the above and beyond best PMP available.
Pros I think the sound quality out is detailed. Use to store my CD library (250GB)
with the DVR docking station. SPDIF-to tubed-DAC to Marantz 16 Mono Blocs. Sweet Sound with control at desk.
I can take all of my music with me on the plane or in the car.
Cons I'm getting scratches and wear marks on the housing. This is my fault because I can't put it down.
Summary I have waited for something like this for years.
Large storage capacity
Small size (relatively) I have a big hand.
Excellent Sound Quality
It feels like quality in your hands.
A Docking station to keep it in place at home and charged.
I am still in the process of building the music database by downloading all my CD.
This is making my old music new again if not just for the accessibility.
The only faults are really more idiosyncrasies of the Archos. Drag and drop does not exist on this version. interface with WMP is not effortless...this is MS not Archos concern.
The playlist feature takes some getting used to/or I could RTM !
If you want an Internet tablet buy the new one. (this is the Archos 5 250GB gen 6
If you want to play music and movies...
Buy it with the accessories.
Pros Can view anything from the unit on the tv, can record anything you can view on the tv, can also surf the web on the tv.
Cons nothing! can't figure out how to get the audio to record on the device!
Summary I love it! I have it hooked up to a Comcast motorola cable box and cannot get the audio to record on the device. Otherwise, I love this thing! I have the archos 705 wifi. I even tried to record a dvd that I was playing that day. It worked! Just can't get the danged audio to record.I know this is EXTREMELY late response, but I found out the dvr station was broke. I purchased a new one from amazon and it still records! It still works although I don't use it as much any longer. Archos doesn't support it any more so some of the products (such as the Program Guide) hasn't worked since 2008, I have to manuely program all of the stuff I want recorded... Oh well, I'm moving on to the IPad...I think.
