  • "Easy to use; sound quality average"
    on by ncscootr

Pros Easy setup, decent remote, inexpensive

Cons Sound quality is dull and lacks spatial information

Summary I bought this for my elderly mom but her locale wasn't amenable to a satellite signal and the town has no repeaters. So I am using it in my all-triode-tube Cary Audio system.

The background is very quiet and the sound quality is free of distortion in the midrange (vocals, guitar, etc.) but lacks the sparkle and spatial presence (depth, image width, sense of instrumental placement) of good vinyl or CD. Better than most MP3s though.

Good for car or background listening, but not good for getting down into the music.

  • "Terrible FM transmitter & docking cradle"
    on by losmorob

    Pros None. Stick with Delphi.

Cons Unable to get this unit to work.

Summary My son and I tried three different units of the Audiovox Xpress radio in his car. None of them would work using the FM transmitter. It seemed that there was a short within the docking cradle that prevented it from transmitting. If you held it "just right" it would work. I tried it in my car with my existing XM antenna and still no luck. We went to cancel the account and XM sent us a Roady for next to nothing that works great.
I've been an XM radio listener for 3 years now and I've and installed 3 Delphi Roady's with no problems. I will not buy another Audiovox.

  • "Nice unit, nice sound, great programming"
    on by BGsaab

Pros Sports Ticker, XM SureConnect, built-in FM modulator, Remote Control

Cons Somewhat small buttons...and that's reaching. The Remote control isn't backlit...and I'm really reaching now!

Summary I bought this unit in April 2007 to replace an original Delphi XM SkyFi, which served me well from 2003-2007. I was at first unimpressed with the static and difficulty in pulling in the signal UNTIL I installed the XM SureConnect device on my car. This completely transformed the unit and made it enjoyable again. The built-in FM modulator works quite well, and you can choose any station you like (my old SkyFi only gave you 8 frequencies to choose from). As I spend a LOT of time in the car for my work, XM is a wonderful luxury for not much money. My son and I love the Sports Ticker, and we have many of our favorite teams programmed in there. In fact, if your team is playing and the game will be broadcast on XM, the Ticker tells you what time and on which channel to listen. Though the buttons on the face are small, the tuning knob works well, and the Remote Control (don't laugh) is terrific for a quick channel change. It also has a "jump" button to take you back (as in alternating between Reggae Music and the Hockey game!) I've been impressed with the Xpress - maybe the others never hooked up the SureConnect device?? It did make ALL the difference in the world.

  • "THIS UNIT BLOWS"

IF YOU HOLD YOUR MOUTH JUST RIGHT AND THE WIND IS BLOWING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION IT WILL WORK........MAYBE..........
THE SCREEN FREEZES...HEAVY STATIC UNLESS YOU USE THE TAPE DECK THING...I DONT HAVE A TAPE DECK....

WILL NEVER OWN ANYTHING FROM AUDIOVOX AGAIN.....I HAVE HAD THEIR PRODUCTS BEFORE....SHOULD OF KNOWN NOT TO GET AN AUDIOVOX UNIT....LEARNED THE HARD WAY I GUESS.....

    VERY DISGUSTED!

  • "Seems to be a very good product"
    on by crex1969

    Pros Easy install, clean sound

Cons Would be nice to have a vent mounting clip included

Summary Afetr talking with teh salesman, I was skeptical this unit would work well with the fm transmitter. I almost bought a direct fm hookup in the store, but figured I might as well give the built in fm modulator a try. Hook up and install was easy. Only time consuming part was concealing the wires. My radio sound has been VERY good with the built in fm transmitter. I have read many reviews saying the built in fm transmitter does not work well, but I have found it to work very well. I should also say I am using the included sure connect that you hook up to your vehicle antennae. I have had this unit about 1 week now and am very happy with it. easy to use, remote works well, sound is very good. My only possible complaint would be with the mounting. It only comes with an adhesive that you can stick somewhere on your dash. I initially had trouble finding a spot to secure it, but once I did, it has not come loose. I would definitely recommend this product.
