"Constantly disconnects in cold weather"2.0 starson by OriginalDTox
Pros: TTS feature speaks to you and tells you who is calling. Duplex speaker for smoother communication. Magnetic clips are great for relocating the device.
Cons: Speaker quality isn't as good as it could be. Constantly disconnects or doesn't work at all in cold weather. One button for multiple commands doesn't always work as it should. Customer service takes much longer than the stated 24-48hrs.
Summary: When I first picked up this device I absolutely loved it. The setup is quick and easy thanks to a voice tutorial right on the unit (the voice is even pleasant to hear) and it automatically downloads the phone book from your cellular phone to use for it's spoken caller ID feature.
The duplex speaker is also a nice upgrade over some of the more basic models as it sends and receives sound at the same time. This means if you're on the phone with someone and the two of you try to talk at the same time, it doesn't cut one of you off like on cheap handsfree devices.
Unfortunately that's where my good experiences ended.
The speaker was nowhere near as good quality as many of the reviewers seem to indicate. I found it to be quite muddy.
As others have stated, the voice recognition really does require a loud voice in order to activate it. Especially in a louder vehicle.
I already have a relatively loud voice, and I found that I had to speak even louder at times in order for the Supertooth unit to pick up my voice.
The green talk button on the unit is used for multiple features and I found that it sometimes got confused and did things like "redial" when I was actually just trying to turn the unit off.
This lead to me having to turn my cellular phone off before turning off the Supertooth unit, and then turning my phone back on once the Supertooth unit had finished shutting down.
I found that to be quite a pain.
When driving around town the unit tends to disconnect and reconnect quite frequently. This caused me to receive calls on my cellular phone without it being connected to the Supertooth unit on several occasions. I tried using a different phone and had the same result.
Many times the unit wouldn't work properly at all.
It would turn on and connect to the phone, but while I could hear people speaking through the Supertooth unit, they couldn't hear me speaking until I transferred the sound back to my phone.
Through my searches on the internet I have discovered that other people had this same problem during cold weather. And that seems a plausible explanation in my case as the times I had the most trouble with the unit, were shortly after beginning my drive home from work, and the temperatures here would have been anywhere from -5C to -25C.
I returned the unit to the store I purchased it from for a full refund a few days ago and have yet to purchase another handsfree device.
It seems from the reviews that all of the manufacturers have a lot of improving to do when it comes to handsfree units.
