"Poorly constructed cheap japanese bulb"
on by shdwsclanPros Made for the Idiot: can be replaced by Idiot
Cons Poorly constructed, Made in Japan -> Overpriced, $280 for a 10k HID vehicle headlight that retails for 29.99, did I mention overpriced
Summary Any electronics, any vehicle, basically anything made in japan is overprice. I took this thing apart, and it is extremely poorly constructed, with bare uninsulated wire on the inside.
You can make your bulb cheaply by just taking off the caulk in the back of the reflector and replacing bulb inside with a cheap, reliable, well constructed, taiwan made HID. You should probably look under the 100 Watt section for 10000k bulbs. Im not sure the of the OEM wattage, which is why I recommend that you check in the panasonic part book what the rating of the bulb transformer is. Pop the bulb in, I suggest fitting the reflector with a HID clip and using plastic screw-on connection insulator. It should work fine as long as voltage, wattage, and color temparture are the same....
I dont recommend anyone doing the above, but go for it if your panasonic television using this bulb has one of those 4 year store warranties.
You will need long screw-drives or driver extensions because you can only take this thing apart from the inside. There are only 3 screw on the inside holding it together, 2 holding the plug and 2 more holding it together from the outside. All these screw are easily acessable, you just have to do some targeting. -

Cons ABSOLUTE RIP-OFF
Summary We bought this Panasonic 50" rear projection
in Oct. 2004 and this is the 3rd lamp we had to buy.
So 3 years 3 lamps! I called Panasonic and they just might as well have said OH WELL your tuff luck. I am here to say: NEVER will I spend another hard earned dollar on a Panasonic ANYTHING! -
"Panasonic missed the expected lifetime by a power of ten"
on by SherryBPros 18 month warranty now
Cons tend to explode twice per year for me
Summary Anyone who has a TV that uses this bulb needs to sign the petition here:
http://www.petitiononline.com/panbulb/petition.html
and call 1-800-211-PANA to get their bulb replaced free. If you have 2 bulb failures, demand a new balast. -
"Long life for a great TV."
on by tho_x_tranPros Long life. Front loading, per instructions, seems very easy to replace.
Cons Lumen seems weakened over age, maybe nothing can be done about that
Summary Last much longer than other brands as far as I know. Got 2 model PT43LC14, both are in 6th year now and still use the 1st bulb with a little over 8000 hrs.
Heard about the problem with previous generation LC13, this generation LC14 seems not having that problem. -
"Worked great for 4.5 years."
on by mexglxPros Moved twice and the bulb has been good.
Cons Can' tell if it lost lumens over time?
Summary Bought the TV in Oct of 2004. Just replacing the first bulb Feb of 2009!!
