"An excellent projector" on by maddmatt
Pros: high resolution hd picture, quiet, bright, inexpensive compared to a plasma
Cons: none yet after 8 months ownership
Summary: I am glad I own this projector. It has much better picture quality than any of the plasma tvs I looked at, and at a fration of the price. This projector was truly designed for high definition home theater. There are plenty of settings to attain the desired picture and several aspect ratios to choose from. DVDs look great but where this projector really shines is with hd television. I have it set up with a screen size of about 54" x 96" and the 1080i picture I receive from my cable connection is beautiful. Regular non-hd tv doesn't look as nice but the results are acceptable. This is a good buy if you are looking to set up a home theater. However, you must be able to control light in the room it is installed in to a good degree or the picture will be washed out slightly (dark curtains do the trick).
Essential components:
1) wall or ceiling mount screen (I have one of the cheap roll-up types and it works wonderfully- go for high contrast for better blacks)
2) ceiling mount (go for the good one on this. One with adjustments for every direction and sturdy construction)
3) necessary a/v cables (again, get the good ones) -
"Pull the trigger! Outstanding design LCD, Best buy!" on by Poppypbr
Pros: Good pics out of the box. Custom 6500 color w/Deep Black awesome. Exceptional Optics
Cons: Manual left out 1080P capable w/3-2 pulldown for awesome 720P pics!
Summary: I bought the Hitachi as backup to my Panasonic AE900U but I now consider them equal after a month. The Hitachi PJTX100 is a better projector for dark films and scenes and the Panny for lighter fims and scenes. The Hitachi and Panny both scale well with my upconverting OPPO 981. The Hitachi will take 1080P for a better compressed 720P pic and it also scales 480P better than the newer Panny. The Panny's color accuracy and smooth screen tech is really good but the Hitachi's optics and focus across the screen is superior. I place the Hitachi design solidly in the upper quarter of all LCD's. Do not be put off by its low price. Japanese design, assembled in China.Quality is perfect. My son has one too. Outstanding buy! Also order a Da-Lite High Power Model B pulldown for a great screen. You will feel like you stole your Home Theater. 5 stars. Superb.
