  • "The projector that keeps on sucking money"
    on by mmancuso666

    Pros Easy setup, good picture

Cons Really loud, expensive lamps that burn out quickly, manufacturing defects

Summary If you get this piece of equipment be prepared to keep on going into your bank account to keep it running. The lamp is supposed to have a 4000 hour lifetime. My first lamp burnt out after about 1500 hours, the second lamp around 2000 hours. The most frustrating thing is that after about 6 months of use, a dark band started to creep in from the left side of the picture. This was a defect that could only be repaired in their facility in Kentucky. So be prepared to be without for at least a week to 10 days. The first time this happened the machine was in warrenty. The second time it happened (about a year later) InFocus would not stand behind their product and it would cost 300 bucks to fix. Add on to that the cost of a new lamp (another 300 bucks) and it's going to cost me 600 dollars just to get it up and running again!!! I've only had this piece of crap for a couple of years and I've nearly paid as much to keep in in lamps and repairs as I paid for it in the first place (about 1200 dollars).
I like the machine in general, and I'm going to miss having the huge picture on my wall, but I just can't justify continuing to pay for the InFocus CEO's golf trips just to keep the dang thing running.
Don't buy this -- and don't support InFocus. If they don't stand behind their products, then they don't deserve your money.

Pros Great entry level HD projector

Cons Auto power up is unnecessary

Summary I bought this projector for my wife's work. She didn't use it afterall and I discovered it would do HD with a component video adapter. It worked like a champ and I was pleased with the widescreen DVD projection. Next I bought a low-end (USDTV) HDTV tuner and was blown away by the results. Great 16:9 picture at 83" diagonal (That's all the room I have in the bedroom.)

I do have to darken the room in the daytime but the room is by no means totally dark. I can still read the buttons on my remote control.

One odd quirk is the auto power up. The projector cycles on whenever power is supplied. That is good until you have a power outage. The projector will cycle up whenever power is restored whether you want it or not. I installed a power strip to make sure the power is physically switched off unless I intend to use it.

  • "Perfect for Viewing at night"
    on

Pros I just showed Shrek & Finding Nemo on a 8x8 board with a King size sheet and it looked beautful. Of course it requires darkness.

Cons Not suited for daytime viewing. The picture was sharper & brighter when connecting to a laptop vs. S-Video or Video cable

  • "INFOCUS charges to fix DEFECT"
    on by lgrubr

    Pros cost lamp life

    Cons defective equipment, no support

Summary after 1200 hours, the projector developed a dark line covering about 20%of the left side of projector, the company wants $$$ to fix this, since the 1 year warranty was past, AND they will not send me the part to fix it myself
Never again will i buy an INFOCUS, and i wont spend hundreds to fix a projector which obviously has a defection

  • "DON'T BUY INFOCUS!!!!!"

Pros Can buy many other brands

Cons Product, Customer Service, Technical Support

Summary I have to rate this product and this company as horrible!!

I purchased the X2 in 12/2004. Everything was fine. In 6/2005, the lamp blew. Less than 300 hours on it!!! I called the company. They said sometimes it happens. I questioned the projector. They said I just needed a new lamp. $300.00 later.....oh, you can only get the lamps from them. You can only get service on the X2 from them.

I get the new lamp. It just blew again-about 700 hours-half of what the life should be. Additionally, the fan died-which may be why the lamp blew. Maybe there was a problem with the fan a year ago (when it was STILL under warranty but they wouldn't look at it!!!) No. They say no.

The projector was ceiling mounted and never moved since it was first put in place. The projector was blown clean on a regular basis. This projector was not mistreated or misused.

    Infocus says "sometimes this happens".

They, for $250, plus $30.00 shipping, will fix the fan. I also need to buy a new lamp-another $300. The company keeps saying-"It is out of warranty", "sometimes this happens", "1400 hours is just what some lamps get", etc., etc,. etc.. They will not accept that perhaps this was a defective product.

I will get a new projector-I can buy a new one for what they want to charge to maybe fix my current one. My new projector WILL NOT/WILL NEVER be an Infocus product.

They have failed to stand behind their product. Their service is overpriced and their technical support and customer service is nothing more than drones citing manuals and warranties.

    Don't buy Infocus!!!!
