"Super Image Quality"
Pros: image quality, high contrast
Cons: unit looks like cheap plastic
Summary: Outstanding image quality right from the start! I read all the positive reviews and did my research before buying. Even so, the first time the unit was turned on, my jaw dropped! It looks that good.
HD TV and DVD sources are very good, regular TV is watchable, but the quality difference is much less than HD signal. You will probably stick to HD channels to enjoy the great picture. I was concerned about fan noise after reading reviews. I have never noticed any noise unless using the unit in high power mode. I leave the projector in low power mode, the image quality is only slightly less bright, the fan is quiet, and the bulb is supposed to last 4000 hours in low mode.
100 inch image looks good at 14 feet, and I am picky about high quality images without pixelation. I like to adjust the image size depending on the source quality, so I do not use a fixed screen. My wall is slighly off-white, with some gloss to the paint, displays images very well. The zoom has limited range, but I am able to adjust between 77 and 100 inch images depending on my mood.
I looked at several units in the 3000$ range, including the Infocus 5700, I am very glad I bought the 4805, no regrets. I paid $1300 to buy from an authorized dealer, and to support my local upstart high-end home theater store. Infocus is rumored to have excellent customer support if you buy from an authorized dealer.
