Pros Doesn't take up much space.
Cons Everything else that can be thought of while evaluating an audio system. Poor sound. Very poor video on my pioneer plasma TV. I've used it twice and the thing freezes up after about 1 1/2 hrs. use.
Summary Received this as a gift as I wanted a small system in my kitchen/dining room. I must admit I'm spoiled by my expensive home theater system in my living room but I really expected at least decent sound and this just doesn't deliver. I have a $400.00 7 channel receiver,a $125.00 DVD player with $300.00 speakers (I'm only using 2)in my bedroom system and playing on "phantom stereo" it blows this one away.It also puts out real progressive DVD video that is needed for HD and plasma displays. I don't expect it to sound like my expensive M&K/Krell system in my living room but I just expect more for the money. I have heard audio items from Bose that have decent sound for their size and this just isn't one of them. Boomy bass, faint mids and harsh highs when it works make this system in the league of $199.00 HTIB systems at costco. I can buy allot of cigars with the left over cash.
Pros Small with only limited wires and great sound.
Cons DVD drawer doesn't open from the remote.
Summary This was the perfect solution for my new bedroom LCD HD TV which had pitiful sound, but a great picture. I almost didn't buy the Bose 321 because of some poor reviews but it came with a 30 day return policy so I gave it a try. I'm glad I did. It makes an incredible difference and the stereo separation is great - so is the hidden subwoofer adding a deep base for movies and shows.
I didn't really need another DVD player as I have a DVD recorder which I use to make copies of movies I stored on the cable company's Personal Video Box. The Bose player is great for CD playing through those speakers ... when the TV isn't on. One complaint is that you can't pop out the disk with the remote and if you don't there's a little annoying sound from the Bose but it stops when you switch it to TV mode or take out the disk. Another gripe about the remote is that you can't fast forward or reverse a movie disk - only chapter by chapter.
The speaker cord was a little limited for my installation over the bedroom fireplace and the Bose unit in a cabinet about 8 feet away, so I called Bose and they sent me (free except for shipping) a 40 ft cable that really did the trick. Amazing customer service.
I have a big bedroom - 15' x 25' and the sound volume and quality easily works with much more volume if ever needed - my movie setting is at 60 (out of 99).
It does not have the surround sound I get from my family room big TV setup but it has 6 speakers and a subwoofer - so you don't hear dogs barking behind you, but you do hear sounds well off to either side of the speakers which simulates surround quite well from only 2 speakers.
It was a great buy for me.
Pros Easy set up, advance remote is excellent and controls my cable box, TV and the Bose Media Center
Cons Bass is a little weak, but I tweaked it up to a +5 and that seemed to pretty much solve that problem for me.
Summary If your not wanting to spend $1500 up and you don't want wires running to rear speakers then this system works great. At the higher volumes while watching action DVD's the surround effect is great. It's not perfect but for the money I love it.
Pros Fat sound after some tweaking of presets
Cons Freezes up with no sound at times, requires re-booting by unplugging the unit...ugggh
Summary We bought this system for it's compact nature, as we have a classic old Victorian house and the bigger stuff looks out of place. Over-all...I am satisfied BUT have two concerns.
1. Every week or so, the unit freezes up with no sound and must be rebooted by unplugging it. Difficult as it's built in to a cabinet. And why does it do this?
2. DVD mode does not send sound to our Stereo TV, but only to the Bose speakers. Our TV has excellent high end speakers and I could use the extra punch. Is this normal?
( with all other inputs options, we get both Bose sound and TV sound)
Again, it's good when it working after re-boots.
Pros Great sound and Thats it
Cons No component input bad menu
Summary Ok first no progressive scan on series one.2nd, over priced. 2 wires might as well be 400 because they are thick and too long. Everytime you put a DVD in the sound and video options reset?? (set it to 16:9 and it plays 16:9) put another disk in and do it again, same with sound. No clock, no custom labeling. no dimmer. I can go on. Save your money and throw up two bookshelf speakers with a top notch receiver, save $500 , same thing. Bose says they may have a upgrade program to series 2 in the future. Ballpark figures are as follows: Pay to ship it to Bose ypurself first. Pay the difference, about 90% the cost of a new one and wait 4-6 weeks for it. Give me a F@#&ing break!!!!!!!!!E-BAYyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
