"Best options of the higher end HTIB"
Pros: can we say IPOD love the controll on the screen! HDMI output,
Cons: large power cable will not fit home entertainment stand, HDMI was somewhat difficult
Summary: I got this system since I have an apt. It was small HTIB. I didnt want to have to run a bunch of cables to have to take it down when I buy a house. Looked at Bose but the idea of putting all my music onto CD in MP3 format to put on the lifestyle system didn't make me happy. The two cons I mentioned are small to me but scored high on the agrivation factor. I have two degrees and the directions for HDMI were horrible. Maybe I should head back to school. IMPORTANT notes on the HDMI 1. there is sliding switch on the back that should be set to HDMI. 2. on the back of the remote in the seldom used button area is also a HDMI button this switches between 1080 and other outputs. I didn't really notice these in the manual untill 45min of messing with the general HDMI option. Other than that this system is working to the best of its capabilities.

I wish I had read this comment before, because even though the basic setting of this amazing system is very easy, if you want to use the HDMI option, or connect yor HD directv receiver to it, (so you get the sound of HD TV through the s-301 system), the instructions are minimal or almost non existent.
There is a small switch in the back that you have to change to HDMI if you want to use the HDMI cable.
Also, I used an optical audio cable to connect my directv HD receiver to the AUX 3 audio, which then needs to be selected from the help menu in order to hear through the system you HD TV.
Otherwise, the sound with this little and simple system is just amazing, after you set it up. It is beautiful, minor cabling and works great.
I bought mine at best buy, the had a 200 sale, plus a $100 rebate and used a 10% coupon. This is the best price you will find anywhere. Everywhere else, this system was $1599.
