Manufacturer description

If you want an idea of where Onkyo's home theater packages are heading, the HT-S5200 is well worth checking out. Like previous Onkyo 7.1-channel receiver/speaker packages, the HT-S5200 delivers reassuringly hefty amounts of power and all-round performance. And in line with other recent offerings, it's also perfectly suited for high-definition entertainment in the home: 1080p video takes center stage from sources such as Blu-ray Disc, DVD, HD broadcasting, and gaming. The emphasis is still on Onkyo's audio prowess, so the HT-S5200 is equipped with three groundbreaking Audyssey technologies that will give you the edge in terms of surround sound. It also features some exciting innovations from Onkyo - a dedicated port that connects the iPod via the dock for the iPod and DSP modes specifically designed for gaming.

EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pros: The best sound PERIOD.

Cons: NONE. ITS PERFECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Review: I have had this system since Oct 09 and the sound is SOUNDSATION!!! I had tried 2 other surround sound systems and to be honest the price did give pause at taking a gamble that it wouldnt be any better, but, WOW!!! this baby ROCKS!!! I was a theatre manager for over 30 years and Onkyo comes the closets to matching true theatre surround sound have ever heard. My only regret is that I didnt get the 7200 and go for a full 10 channels that it will DO. In this economy, if you can afford the 7200 go for it, you will not be disappointed, if your budget cant go that high, by all means get the 5200. My bottom line is this: Onkyo is number 1 and thank them for making a system that most folks can afford. At some point, when I can afford it, going to upgrade the receiver to a 7.2 or maybe higher. One other thing, I have not found that the unit over heats, those that say it does must not have thier feet on the ground. GO ONKYO!!!!!!!!!!

Very good sound for TV, Movies, and music.

Pros: The Sound quality is great for TV, Movies, and music.

Cons: Can't use HDMI for audio, but that can be easily solved with a digital audio cable.

Review: The Dolby EX feature for Movies and All Channel Stereo put you right in the middle of the sound.

that thing really booom

Pros: sound quality,easy installation,
great bass, the speaker calibration audessey is a big plus, the finish is awesome wood speakers enclosure with shiny plastics sides.
7.1 baby!!!!!!

Cons: the wiring really sucks,i spend another $150 in 16 guage wiring, the ones from factory are so tiny and short don't even worth trying to use them.No audio with hdmi, have to use a separate cable for audio.

Review: im using this htib in a huge room like 600 sqf room and fills the whole room, love this thing but like i said in my cons if you spending a good chunk of money on this equip might as well go spend another chunk of money in wiring, since i was running wires thru attic and walls have to buy monster 16 gauge wires cl3 rated wires so they were more expensive than regular 16 gauge monster cables, but go to your radio shack or home depot store or any where online and do yourself a favor toss away factory wires and get yourself some at least 16 gauge speaker wires,i can believe such a powerful equipment and tiny wires how all those watts are gonna flow thru?anyway i concealed all my wires thru attic and walls over 200 feet of wires and came out pretty good ,did the calibration with the included microphone and is an awesome process, dont like the idea of having to use an extra cable for audio when hdmi is suppost to carry both video and audio but anyway i have the cables so i did the installation and could care less now, bottom line I will recommend this htib to anyone considering buying an htib, dont go buy bose gety onkyo they sound better for less believe me,is all name with bose.

Best HTIB I have found.

Pros: Unbelievable power (130 W x7, 290W for sub), high quality speakers, Audyssey microphone adjusts delay on surround speakers according to your room dimensions and speaker position, HDMI pass through- only 1 cable to your TV, digital decoding, iPod dock

Cons: HDMI pass through- but it does NOT decode the audio signal (as advertised), only 2 optical audio inputs (has 2 additional digital coax inputs), surround speakers have a keyhold for hanging on wall unsure if they can be used with wall mount

Review: I am extremely pleased with this home theater system. Purchased new from ********** for $400, I find great value in not only the receiver but the speakers too. The entire system is aesthetically pleasing, the speakers being small but more than adequate. The Audyssey system is very easy to use and optomizes the surround sound- it's really dummy proof. My TV is mounted on the wall and I do not want to have to tilt it away from the wall and try and locate the inputs by touch every time I add or change a component of my system. Having HDMI pass though alleviates all of this- just plug 1 HDMI cable into your TV and additional components into the receiver HDMI ports and switch between them with your remote. The ONLY drawback to this is that the audio is not decoded so an additional audio cable from each component to the receiver is necessary. There are 4 digital audio inputs (and 4 HDMI inputs), 2 being optical and 2 being coax. Prior to buying this HTIB I read countless reviews and really felt I did my homework, after watching a Bluray DVD with this system I know I made the right decision. Getting it for $400 was just a bonus. This system does not disappoint- all caveats being aforementioned.

The unit has the power and is nice looking.

Pros: I like the look of all the components and how easy it was to set the system up.

Cons: I bought the system at Fry's Electronics in Burbank, CA for $494.00, when I got the system home, I found the sub woofer was 10 inch, not 12 inch, as was printed on the box.The four small speakers are too small, for good reason, they have no tweeters.

Review: I see no point in keeping the system, this explains why sound coming from the four small speakers seemed low, a single driver is not good enough.
I am making my third trip to Fry's, which should have been one very happy trip in the first place, had I paid attention to the spec sheet, I would have bought something better with at least, all two way speakers.

Updated on Aug 28, 2009

I had a Panasonic system which had two way speakers, in saying that I find this system to be good in its surround sound, as was pointed out to me you do not need two way speakers for the side and back.

Updated on Aug 28, 2009

I give this system 3 and a half stars.
