"Outstanding for the price"
Pros: Great reciever, great 1080p thruput, good power strong sub-w
Cons: HDMI 1080p thruput only, sub par speakers
Summary: HTIB have come along way, usally i would turn my nose to these systems but after looking at the specs and the past performance of ONKYO i felt it wouldnt hurt to try. Easy setup. easy speaker calibration. The speakers on this system does not do this receiver justice. I recommend replacing the cheap speaker wire ASAP to push the sound alot better. The receiver has alot of features and alot of custom sound settings not found in other HTIB what blows me away is that this system is only $450. The HDMI switch in this receiver works seemlessly. Best 1080p passthru I have seen for the price. This system is a diamond in the rough and should demand some attention. After spending some time with the remote its a breeze. Really am impressed with what onkyo is doing as a companyUpdated
Bought the Sr-800 about a month ago now. All I can say is for $450 this is by far the #1 HTIB system to own for the price. I have so many great things to say about this system I dont know where to start. I soley bought this HTIB for the reciever but After replacing the speaker wire with decent 14 awg oxygen free wire I got a huge gain from the rear spearkers and was impressed. The reciever alone in my book is worth the $450 very impressed with the power and functionality of it. I cant wait to replace the rear speakers and experiment with the power. I have not tested this yet but I spoke with several Onkyo tech over the phone and they have all assured me since the HDMI is passthrough only it will support HDMI 1.3 with out problems. The front speakers on this system are solid and lively I might experiment with other speakers but if I dont get any gain I will stick with the solid orginal front speakers. Dont get me started on the sub-w its strong and smooth you can hear/feel the quality, My girlfriend said it put chills down her spine during a movie. My only complaint about this system is that the HDMI is passthrough only but I dont mind because my TV has 3 Hdmi inputs so it not a deal breaker for me. Im very anal with my HDTV settings anyways, I have calibrated settings for each of my inputs blu-ray DVD,Gaming,DVD,CPU,SD, and HD TV so regardless of the hdmi passthrough this system is a good fit for me at this price point I couldnt be happyier with my choice. Just my 2 cents.
