"Good, just not good enough"
Pros: Price, sound, connectivity
Cons: No HDMI up-scaling, sort of hard to understand manual
Summary: We purchased the black version from Crutchfield, and overall it is a good setup. The sound is great, looks sharp, and the speakers are easily wall mountable. We matched it up with the 52" XBR5, PS3 and it sounds awesome!
But when I was running the cable through the wall, all 7 or 8 of them, I thought there had to be a better way, some way to have just one HDMI cable running from the receiver to the TV. And what do you know, they actually do make receivers that do just that, and this isn't one of them. I knew the limitations of this model, and didn't think much of it at the time, now I wish I would have chosen a little more wisely.
I ordered the Onkyo SR-605 last week and Im going to give that one a try. I just wish there was a way to keep the speakers and send back the receiver. I ordered the Polk RM-85 speakers, and they sound so small compared the the ones in this system. I priced similar Polk speakers to the ones in this system, and came up with a price of about 800-1000$.
Speakers good, Receiver limited. that about sums it up.
