"No digital audio input!" on by Schnippshly
Pros: Looks nice, sounds nice.
Cons: Had a hard time figuring out how to make 5.1 surround sound work, went months without it.
No digital audio input! Only stereo audio input. For shame!Summary: Visually, I see no problems with this DVD player. People complain about how the upscaling isn't great but I think it looks fine. The audio is also nice and clear, and I had no problem making the wireless rear speakers work. Wireless rear speakers is really convenient, especially in our long living room.
But I had a big problem with the actual 5.1 surround sound working. I went forever without it, trying to figure out why the rear speakers sounded just like the left and right ones. I thought that the button that said "S.SRD" turned on the surround sound, because it would switch between OFF, MOVIE and MUSIC. I assumed "movie" meant the surround sound was on. In actuality, it means that the left and right channels are expanded to all five speakers, so it's just stereo but all over the place. I don't even know the difference between movie and music, but when you set it to off, the surround works like it's supposed to.
So, the DVD player is nice, and the surround sound works great. The big, obvious problem is, there's no digital input! There's only stereo input- white and red cable input ports. So, if you have a device, like an XBOX 360, that can do surround sound, too bad! It won't plug into the DVD player, so you will have to use stereo! It's unbelievable! Makes me want to puke.
So, unless all you want to do is watch DVDs, this is just a big waste of money because nothing else will plug into it to do surround sound.
