"More than I was Expecting!!!"
Pros: Price, Design, Options
Cons: none so far
Summary: After purchasing the vizio 42" lcd (L42)and a XBOX 360 i realized my audio setup was needing some serious upgrading. All i had was a cheap surround system from walmart. Yes it had five satelite speakers and a sub but the only inputs were analog so true suround was simpl impossible. I required a setup that had three digital inputs, true dolby digital 5.1, dolby pro-logic II, ETC. on the other hand i didn't need or want a HTIB (home theater in a box) with a built in DVD player as I already have a very nice Philips up-convert dvd player that I am extremly happy with (DVP5960). Last, but not least I didn't want to spend over 300 bucks. So after some intensive research along with some ebay browsing i came across the Pioneer (HTS-GS1) My first impressions were "this looks interesting" especially with the whole "licensed for Xbox360" of course that is more than likely just a selling ploy. so even with so not so good reviews i found one on ebay that was NIB for 199.99 with free shipping. I was getting pretty excited because i could finally enjoy the whole HD experience. Well when it finally came via fedex i tore the box open and within 20 minutes had it wired and setup, including using MCAAC Microphone for auto setup (did a very good job of getting the surround to a base level). I was able to connect all three of my devices via the digital inputs (Xbox 360-optical, HD cable box-optical, and Up-convert dvd player-Coax). so with the original matrix in the dvd player i skipped to the gun scene in the building.......HOLY $%#@ was all i could think or say. the sound was incredible. now i will say that i live in a pretty small studio apartment, which is the perfect environment for this system. next i powered up the xbox and threw in Gears of War. now that was an fantastic experience. bullets were flying in all directions, and i could clearly hear when ever someone or something was trying to creep up behind me. next i turned on my new hd cable box and a nascar race was on, so i cranked up the volume and the sound was very immersive. The only other thing i can say about this system is about its design. I love the fact that the amp and receiver are built into the subwoofer. with only the small well designed display unit to place in practically any spot available. I was worried that the cable connecting the sub to the display unit would be on the short side, but boy was i wrong. the cable hadd to of been atleast ten feet long. providing me with ample ability to place it nicely on top of my dvd player inside of my entertainment center. The display unit also imitates the design of the xbox which is a nice touch. So all in all if your looking for a well priced suround system with 3 digital inputs for your 5.1 surround sound pleasure with a little design and a pretty good punch then i would strongly suggest you take a good hard long look at the pioneer HTS-GS1. with all the sound options and the ease of setup you really can't go wrong. Hope you enjoyed my mini-review
