"Packs a Punch"

4 stars  | on by vodkadrummer

Pros

Sound quality is respectable and desireable. Setup is dummy proof. System options available are reasonable and sufficient for a great home theater experience. Compact. Fairly easy to connect to computer for pic/mp3 playback.

Cons

Poor disk door quality (flimsy plastic) occasionally (25%) gets hung up and the door does not open without assistance.
Touch sensitive open/close button on my unit only works intermittantly directly out of the box. Limited # of useful Apps

Summary

Very good unit for the price. I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it though (got mine on sale from Delll for appx $350).

Very good unit for the price. I wouldn't pay more than $400 for it though (got mine on sale from Delll for appx $350).
I would recommend for use in a room size of 250sq ft or less. The sound is reproduced well through the entire spectrum, except during low bass response at higher volumes (35+). At that level, the subwoofer vibrates/noticeably rattles and sounds like it is over-extending itself or the design of the enclosure (but not clipping). Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10 scale. The few cons mentioned, while annoying, are relatively easy to live with, and expected for the price paid. Samsung Apps are great in theory, but most are other streaming movie/TV services that currently don't compare to Netflix in cost/value. Streaming Netflix does work very well with this unit and adds value to it. Also, the digital audio IN (fiber optic cable required) also allows you to listen to regular TV in 5.1 sound (when broadcast that way) which is great for sports events etc. My gf can't wait for football season with this thing! Overall, if you like theater quality sound, have wired ethernet, a mid sized room, shelves or walls to nail the sorround speakers to, this package is for you. Plan to use an HDTV, HDMI cables and the fiber optic digital audio line to experience the quality you are paying for.

"Great for the $$$"

4 stars  | on by awf118

Pros

Good Price. Easy Set up. Calibrates well with current Samsung HD TV Set. IPod Hookup. Streams Netflix Great. Pandora App is great. Stream live baseball games w/ app. Good to great sound.

Cons

I have noticed the same problem as Vodkadrummer w/ the bass. No HDMI Inputs. Blueray controls on box are tempermental. Radio doesn't sound as great as I thought it would.

Got the system during black friday deals and paid around $300. If I had to do it all over again I would probably pay another $100 and get the 6500 with the extra HDMI inputs to run Xbox and HD DVR trough the system. Currently I must run everything through my TV then back to the BlueRay/speakers through a fiber optic cable. Everything worked out but my TV only has two HDMI inputs so something had to give. Changed the XBox back to Composite. boo :( Overall, after never owning a system such as this I am very pleased with my purchase. Music through the IPod sounds great and navigating through songs is surprisingly easy. I will say that I wish the radio antenna was a bit longer. Not a terribly hard fix but the reception on my hand held radio currently trumps this system until I can get a better/longer antenna. Overall, if you don't have a need for the extra HDMI inputs this is your best bet for your $$$.
