Pros Speakers sound great -- as far as I know everything but ONE CRUCIAL DETAL is outstanding.
Cons I'm still working this out with Samsung and Best Buy, but it really looks as if there may be not a single way to listen to this system using headphones.
Summary I'm not sure how many of their customers live alone AND own soundproof rooms, but since I like to listen to movies and music at a decent volume when other people may be sleeping or disturbed by the noise, I consider a headphone jack an extremely basic but important part of any stereo/sound system and I completely and utterly stunned that A. Samsung did not include and B. CNET did not mention this extremely crucial detail in their glowing review, which caused me to buy it (technically the almost identical 6600). It never occurred to me that, in an urban world where many of their customers were families, that a system could be manufactured without either a headphone jack or some sort of wireless hook-up. This, my friends, is freaking nuts and I am so unbelievably angry about this as I spent an entire day hooking up my new TV and this system only to notice this little ommission right at the end. Now, I'll probably have to return and I am, repeat, utterly furious.
Pros Good picture (when it works)
Internet is fine.
Cons Speakers don't always work
Firmware upgrades are useless
Customer service is NOT helpful
AnyNET is worse than useless
Summary First off, I don't tend to write reviews unless I LOVE or HATE a product. I HATE this one with the fire of a thousand burning suns.
Bought this product in June, and had problems right away. Had to take one system back the day we bought it because it was completely dead right out of the box. The second one was great for about 48 hours, and then the problems started showing up. AnyNET is ridiculous, whenever you try to turn on the TV, the HTS turns on, but not to the right setting, only to BR/DVD, and then any time you press a button (doesn't matter which) it randomly changes function or setting. Turned that off, and then there were less problems. Whenever a firmware update is due, which is all the time, the unit resets to factory settings. ANNOYING especially when my kids just want to watch a movie. The speakers randomly cut out, sometimes only one, or two,but most often all of them except the subwoofer. Powering down the unit sometimes helps, but not always. Checking for software updates sometimes helps but not all the time.
We have called Samsung customer service more than three times, and the only time we got anywhere was when we ended up cussing at them. They offered to send someone to look at the unit, but never set a time or date, and the guy never showed up. Doesn't matter though because they already told us that they would not replace the system anyway. They would just "fix" it at their facility, which would take 2-3 weeks. Um, that's not going to work for my 2 year old. "Sorry honey, the TV people took away our only way to hear Spongebob. Maybe we'll get it back next month." No Way.
At this point, the 90 day warranty is expired (even though it was complete bunk to begin with) and we're replacing this crap with a Yamaha A/V receiver and using our PS3 for Blu-Ray until the stink of Samsung's rotting corpse of a reputation either prompts them to re-think, or kills the company outright.
Pros Excellent sound quality, great picture, fun apps, streams wirelessly.
Cons rear speakers are wireless, but require an adapter, and wires to run from the adapter.
Summary I did a lot of research on home theaters in a box, and finally decided on this one. I have had no problems. Streams wirelessly from the internet (though i have a separate wireless network dedicated just for this purpose.) With the wireless adapter, my rear speakers sound great! (use the 5000 adapter for this model). A lot of fun; awesome sound; very happy!
Pros Nice box
Pretty blue lights
Cons Poor layout on remote
Customized Setting do not stay
Poor quality speakers
Summary Ok so as a result of the product I will never purchase a Samsung product again. Their customer support is laughable they just admit to the problems but never offer a solution.
Issue 1: The speakers were so underperforming that I gave them away and decided to just run the TV speakers. In order to do this you have to modify the settings on the Samsung HT-C6500 to run audio through HDMI. I quickly discovered every time I turn the HT-C6500 back on I have to reconfigure the HDMI Audio. So every time you power it on you have to run through multiple menus to re-set this.
Issue 2: Every so often the Samsung HT-C6500 powers itself off for no particular reason.
Issue 3: Sometimes when you power on the Samsung HT-C6500 it thinks it has a DVD in when you power it on and just goes to a blank screen. You have to eject the empty DVD drive to get back to normal.
The Samsung HT-C6500 seems to have numerous updates to the software and these do not seem resolve any of the bugs and seem to have even introduced new ones.
Issue 4: If I turn it on with a blue ray disc inserted than it goes to a blank screen and I cannot get back to the main menu. I have to eject the disc and sometime power device off and on.
At one time I believed that Samsung was a reputable company but now it seems as if their products have little to no Quality Assurance testing. With all of these bugs I have concluded that Samsung not only does not care about the consumer but does not even test their own products. The fact that my initial issue is considered a feature "not saving settings made by the consumer" is ridiculous and I am appalled that Samsung has done nothing to resolve it. The ht-c6500 will be making its way to the trash and I can assure you that this is the last Samsung device I will ever waste money on. I wish there was a rating worse than one star.
Pros Nice compact package with lots of features. Picture is very good. Sound good (but not great). Slick styling, the touch sensors are cool - way better than buttons.
Cons Wireless broadband capability sux (not 5GHz capable). Software upgrade needed out of box, but has been impossible to install. A lighted remote would be nice for watching movies in a dimly-lit room.
Summary I picked this system up at Best Buy for less than half the list price (open box, discontinued item). Boy, am I glad I didn't pay full price. I have been unable to install the software upgrades, which are needed right out of the box. I unsuccessfully tried downloading directly to unit through wireless internet connection. Also tried installing file from both a USB drive and CD-ROM, with no luck. I've contacted Samsung Customer Care to see what else I need to do.
Trying to connect to the internet through wireless is an exercise in futility. I have a dual band "N" router with blazing speed, but this unit does not support 5GHz, only 2.4GHz. No matter what I do, the wireless connection is too slow for streaming video from Netflix. I guess I'll have to go out and buy a 75 ft ethernet cable and try that.
On the plus side, the unit works well for Blu-Ray. No problems there. The sound is very good.
