The fast-paced home-theater-in-box (HTIB) market keeps manufacturers on their toes, with intense demand for new features and lower prices. Even a cursory perusal of Samsung's new HT-TQ85 ($530 list) flagship system will demonstrate how the brand thrives in this highly competitive environment. The HT-TQ85 sports not only an HDMI output, but it's the first HTIB we've seen with an HDMI input. And sure, XM Ready A/V receivers are increasingly common, but that capability is rarely found in HTIBs--same with USB connectivity--and the Samsung HT-TQ85 is one of few to offer both. There's also an optional, wireless surround-speaker amplifier available for buyers who'd rather not run wires from the front to the back of their home theaters. It's not all good news, but missteps aren't of the deal-breaking sort: the HT-TQ85 lacks speaker autosetup, and the manual setup is hardly a cakewalk. Still, the sound on CDs and DVDs is right up there with best HTIBs we've tested in the midprice class. In short, if you're looking to spend around $500 on an HTIB, the Samsung HT-TQ85 definitely warrants serious consideration. Samsung's new flagship home theater in a box picks up on the styling cues from its BD-P1000 Blu-ray player and 2006 HDTV line. The HT-TQ85's head unit (a combined A/V receiver, amplifier, and DVD changer), speakers, and subwoofer are finished in semigloss black with silver toned accents. The blue circle of light inside the receiver's volume control looks cool.

The five-disc DVD changer/receiver is 3 inches tall and 17 inches wide and deep, so it might be too deep to fit inside your cabinet or entertainment center. The changer mechanism is unusually smooth and quiet as it goes about its business. The skinny remote is pretty good overall. We never had to fumble to find the centrally located light gray volume up/down buttons--they're much larger than the other tiny black buttons on the black remote--but the close proximity of the Play and Stop buttons led to frequent mistakes.

While the five black, plastic speakers make no pretense that they're made from anything but black plastic, the black cloth grilles add some refinement to the overall look. Assembling the tallboy tower speakers--each one comes in three parts--is simple enough, requiring 15 or so minutes to get all four done. Once they're assembled, they stand 41.1 inches tall, and the center speaker is a mere 11.8 inches wide. Don't have the floor space? All five speakers have keyhole slots for easy-does-it wall mounting. The matching, medium-density fiberboard subwoofer feels a little more substantial, and it's 15.7 inches tall.

We were surprised to note that the HT-TQ85 doesn't have a speaker autosetup/calibration feature. That wouldn't be a big deal if the factory's default speaker settings were acceptable, but they're not. The center speaker's volume is too low so dialogue is hard to hear clearly, and the surround speakers' volume is also too low. You can correct those deficiencies by exploring the HT-TQ85's manual speaker setup, which isn't the most logical or easy to use. While you're in setup mode, you might also want to try to set the speakers' delay settings, which are unfortunately complicated by Samsung's awkward system that asks the user to calculate millisecond delays for the center and surround speakers; on most systems, you enter the actual distances between each speaker and the prime listening position. That said, getting the delay settings right isn't nearly as important as setting the speakers' volume levels correctly. Straight out of the box, the subwoofer's volume was set to the Flat (0 dB) setting, and the sound was much too bassy for our tastes when listening to music. Using the Sound Edit button on the remote, we turned the subwoofer volume down, and that did the trick. For the other onscreen setup details, such as setting TV aspect ratio, the onscreen display navigation was straightforward.

The Samsung HT-TQ85's power amplifiers are rated at 140 watts for each of the five satellite channels and 160 watts for the subwoofer channel. The five-disc carousel style changer plays DVD, DVD-Audio, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, and DivX discs, as well as MP3, WMA, and JPEG photo files. Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II, and DTS surround processing are included.

Video connectivity covers HDMI (with Faroujda DCDI upscaling up to 1080i), component, S-Video, and composite video outputs; and one HDMI input. The HT-TQ85 is the first HTIB we've tested with an HDMI input, so you could hook up, say, an HDMI-equipped HD cable box to the HT-TQ85. On the downside, there are no other video inputs, so you won't have any of the video-switching capability offered on even entry-level standalone A/V receivers, but this is par for the course for HTIBs. The one curious thing we noticed was that in order to hear audio over the system's tallboy speakers when using HDMI, the HT-TQ85's HDMI Audio On/Off selector must be set to Off. The On setting routes the audio through your TV's speakers. Luckily, the factory default setting is Off, but the labeling makes no sense to us--why not call it HDMI Pass-Through instead?

Audio connections include two analog stereo inputs and one optical digital input. It's XM-Ready, which means you can just add an XM Connect-and-Play or Mini-Tuner antenna, sign up for an XM subscription, and you're set for XM reception. The HT-TQ85 has seven pairs of spring-clip speaker connectors to hook up just five speakers and a subwoofer. The extra pair of connectors feeds the center speaker's second input--Samsung doesn't provide any explanation of the unusual wiring scheme. The HT-TQ85 is also compatible with the company's optional wireless amplifier system, the Samsung SWA-3000, for the rear-channel tower speakers, but keep in mind that this will cost you another $150. The front panel's USB port supports MPEG video playback, MP3, WMA, and JPEG. iPod users can plug into one of the rear panel's stereo audio inputs with a stereo-miniplug-to-RCA adapter cable (not included).

The lip-sync delay can be used to synchronize the Samsung's audio with video displays that lag behind audio signals.

Samsung doesn't provide specifics about driver sizes of the speakers or subwoofer, and since the cloth grilles aren't removable, we had no way of determining the sizes or even how many drivers are in each speaker.

It's worth noting that the HT-TQ85's features set far exceeds the last top-of-the-line Samsung HTIB we tested in 2005, the HT-DS1000, which had a suggested retail price of more than double the new model's--it was $1,199. We credit the Samsung HT-TQ85's subwoofer and speakers' seamless blend for its big-hearted sound. We cranked up The Black Keys' Magic Potion CD nice and loud and couldn't believe what we heard. Most HTIBs lack the muscle to put over the Keys' fierce blues guitar attack and heavy-duty drums, but the Samsung didn't seem to mind. It's good but still lacks the oomph you'd get from a separates-based A/V receiver driving a decent-quality speaker and subwoofer package. The stand-up bass on John Coltrane's Giant Steps CD had just the right amount of definition, and Coltrane's saxophone was natural sounding. Few competing HTIBs sound as accomplished when playing music.

The War of the Worlds DVD sound was very clear--dialogue intelligibility was above par for a midpriced HTIB, and the special effects didn't overtax the HT-TQ85. The subwoofer's bass was again a powerful presence, though its definition went south when we played the system loud. Even when pushed hard, the receiver/DVD changer never got never got more than slightly warm.

Scaling back to The Machinist, a moody, psychological thriller DVD, the HT-TQ85 impressed us with its refined sound. The film's subtle, but very effective music score seemed to come from behind the plane of the front speakers.

The vast majority of HTIBs that play DVD-Audio discs aren't fit for the job of demonstrating the high-resolution audio format's sonic appeal, but the HT-TQ85 was up to the challenge. The Grateful Dead's Workingman's Dead DVD-A sounded wonderful, the disc's surround mix, with the vocals and guitars spread front and rear, was simply gorgeous.

We'd be hard-pressed to think of another HTIB that could match the HT-TQ85's exceptional features set and stellar sound for Samsung's very reasonable $500 MSRP.

Great sound for cheap price

Pros: Great sound for cheap price, HDMI in and out, sleek modern look

Cons: not enough inputs, hard to find

Review: I bought the last one available at my Costco- display model- so I got a great price ($330). Most of the reviews are on target. It sounds great, crisp clear sound. Sub is a little weak, so turn it up as well as the rear. Controls are a little confusing, just remember most settings have to be done in the DVD stop mode. Additional inputs would be great- it only has 1 HDMI input and 1 Toslink for audio. This is sufficent for my cable box and 360. Sometimes my Tv doesn't get a signal through the box for cable. I;m not sure if that is a bad HDMI wire or the cable box. I have read that Samsung products and Motorola cable boxes don't work well together. I usually just cycle back through the functions. The system matches my Samsung 50" and looks great, brownie points w/ the wife. 4 stands look great in room, eliminates need for stands. DVD's look awesome and play well, I can't tell if they are upconverted though b/c I usually use my xbox 360 which does that also. Buttons are small and close together.

I haven't tried the USB b/c I have a Samsung Tv with that option. I don't subscribe to XM. Haven't tried the FM tuner yet. I don't have the wireless box. That's $150 xtra.

Overall Cnet's review is right on target.

Quality pictures, great sound

Pros: Video upconvertion to 1080i/720p, sound quality, talboy speakers

Cons: player doesnt play user burn DVDs often, normal DVDs sometime wont play

Review: I bought this unit from Amazon for a price of $399. I read the cnet review and decided to buy. I was bit worried about the system reliability as many of my friends warned me not to trust Samsung products. But I was not disappointed with this system. It produced excellent pictures and great sound. I liked 4 tallboy speakers. It took less than 30 mins to assemble everything to get great surround sound out of it. Up converted DVD video(over HDMI) looked great on my sharp HDTV. Sound quality is great. Only problem I see with this HTIB is that it finds difficulty in playing user burn DVDs. It either says invalid disk or says loading and waits their forever. If you press eject button it even wont eject. Only solution is to reset the system and try!! But it plays all other DVDs and produces excellent pictures.

Overall it is a good value system for under $400.

Great product and a great price

Pros: Hdmi input, Hdmi output, wireless speaker option, Sounds great

Cons: This home theater in a box has none!

Review: This has to be the best home theater unit they make. It has easy set-up and best of all it sounds perfect. Looks good and there is no need to buy speaker stands. Works perfect with a HDTV source like HD cable. It is tens times better than my sony home theater in a box that I bought a year ago.

FOR A $400. SYSTEM CAN'T BE BEAT!! THIS SYSTEM WILL BEAT MANY BOSE SYSTEM AND $1,000. SYSTEM

Pros: FOR A OUT OF BOX 80% PLUS; VERY GOOD OVERALL SOUNDS AND POWER.

Cons: LACKS TREBLE/BASS ADJUSTMENT; WEAK BACK SPEAKERS; DON'T HAVE THE VERY HIGH FREQUENCY OF CUBE SPREAKERS

Review: AFTER SPENDING $4,000. FOR A PIONEER ELITE 50" #1140-PRO AND YOU LOOKING FOR A "DESCENT" SOUND SYSTEM. YOUR WIFE LIMITING YOUR SPENDING UNDER $1,000. THIS SYSTEM IS "IT" AFTER RESEARCHING AND VISITING HIGH END THEATER CONSULTANTS. JUST REMEMBER, YOU'RE NOT SPENDING $1,000.+ ON A RECEIVER; $1,500.+ ON 5-HIGH END SPEAKERS; $500.+ ON SUBWOOFER. (THESE $3,000.+ SYSTEM IS RATED 10+ IN MY BOOK) GOOD TO GET IT, IF YOU CAN AFFORD IT OR MONEY IS NO OBJECT!!

OUT OF THE BOX, I JUST CHANGED THE SPEAKER WIRE TO #16/2 SPEAKER WIRE. DON'T KNOW IF CHANGE IF WIRE MADE MUCH DIFFERENCES. MAIN THING IS PLAY WITH THIS SYSTEM AND KNOW YOUR ADJUSTMENT FEATURES, ESPECIALLY AUDIO SPEAKER ADJUST AND THE PRO LOGIC MODE (MUSIC, CINAMA, PROLOGIC, ETC). WHEN TESTING THE SOUND AND SYSTEM. WHEN PLAYING A "CONCERT MUSIC DVD", SETTTING THE MODE TO "MUSIC" AND MAKING YOUR SURROUND SPEAKER LEVEL MAKE A DIFFERENCE. AS WELL AS PLAYING A ACTION PACK DVD AND SET MODE TO "CINEMA" AND ADJUST SOUND LEVELS AGAIN.

THE SOUNDS ARE VERY "DECENT!!". WERE THE SOUND LACKS IS THE "RICHNESS LEVELS". THE VERY HIGH OF HIGHS LIKE: CHIMES IF A "MUSICAL TRIANGLE" "GUN CASING DISCHARGING AND DROPPING ON THE GROUND". ALSO LACKS THE RICH BASS OF A "BASS DRUM" OR SHAKING OF THE GROUND OF AN "EXPLOSION". DON'T GET ME WRONG THE SUBWOOFER ISN'T BAD, IT'S "DESCENT". REMEMBER THIS SYSTEM HAS A LOT OF POWER. 140-WATT PER SPEAKER. AS I INCREASE THE SOUND LEVEL, SOUND GETS BETTER. FROM MAX.POWER OF 60-BARS, I NORMALLY PLAY AROUND 22-28 BARS. I THINK OVER 35-BARS, YOUR NEIGHBORS WILL BE POUNDING ON YOUR DOOR. I THINK TO IMPROVE THE BOTH END OF THE SOUND FREQUENCY OUTPUT, SPEAKERS MUST BE ADDED OR CHANGE. MAYBE ADD SOME "CUBE" SPREAKER OR JUST CHANGE THE SPEAKER TO A "POLK OR INFINITY". FOR $400., THIS "HTIB SYSTEM" IS "MORE THAN DECENT!!" I JUST WISH SAMSUNG WILL READ THIS AND IMPROVE ON THIS WITH A BIT BETTER SREAKERS AND TREBBLE/BASS ADJUSTMENTS.
Updated
I RECOMMEND THE FOLLOWING ADJUSTMENT. GO TO MENU, THEN AUDIO SECTION, SOUND EDIT: ADJUST TO FOLLOWING: CENTER LEVEL +4dB; REAR LEVEL +6dB; SW LEVEL +6dB. PRESS MENU AND GET BACK IN BY PRESSING MENU AGAIN: ADJUST "DRC" TO 7/8; THEN PRESS MENU. MAKE SURE YOUR PLAYING "MODE" IS SET TO "MUSIC".
PLAY YOUR FAVORITE MUSICAL DVD AND SEE.

I know I bought the right sound system now!

Pros: The ease of operation and the power available is stunning. I wish I had more house to really put it to the test! I bought the SWA-3000 for the wireless rear speakers and the XM radio tuner and dock

Cons: None as yet!

Review: A was a little apprehensive when I bought the HT-TQ85 home. I initially set it up with the sound levels on the conservative side. Some prodding from a friend with an XBOX 360 and Star Wars "A New Hope" truly opened up the experience. I have everything set correctly now and I'm now experiencing movies and games not just listening.

Front speakers and Subwoofer work but rear doesn't...

Pros: Nice looking

Cons: Can't get the rear and center speakers to work yet.

Review: I just set up my htib and when i do a test setup, all the speakers work. But when I turn to my cable channel and hook up aux 1 to it, only front speakers would work. And on display screen, it only shows picture of front speakers being hooked up. (center and rear speakers are not lit up). What is the problem and what can fix this problem? Anyone got any ideas???

Great sounding system, excellent DVD picture

Pros: great sound, great picture, connections

Cons: audio set-up not the easiest

Review: Connected system to HD DVR, HDTV and Xbox using HDMI and digital optical. Sound is excellent for both components and DVD picture quality is outstanding. Upgraded speaker wire to 14 gauge for better transfer. Set-up of system was not very difficult however would recommend using a Home theater tune up DVD for speaker calibration. Remote performs alot of functions so read manual. Overall very happy with system.

Excellent home theater option for a great price. Best Value for the money.

Pros: Excellent price. Does have HDMI input and output , XM radio capability, and external inputs (mp3 players etc). Not difficult to put together when following included instructions.

Cons: Does not have the full variety of Video inputs. Requires additional module for wireless capability for rear speakers.

Review: It took me about 30 to 45 minutes to get the entire unit setup and in place. If you have an HDTV and HD receiver (cable or satellite) that has HDMI capability then this unit is perfect for you. The only complaint someone could have it the lack of video input options. Highly recommend this purchase - the sound and DVD quality are excellent.

great HTIB, setup easy, samsung quality!

Pros: easy to setup, great sound, good looking

Cons: no s-video output, menu only available watching dvd

Review: My 1st review, and first HTIB, after a month of research, I found this to be
the home theatre for my needs, I needed 4 tall-boy speakers, as my wife refused to let me hang speakers on the wall, and after looking at prices and quality of speaker stands, this could not be beat for the price.I do not have a hdtv, just a 7 year old sanyo tv. But wanted to have the ability to upgrade to HDMI which this offers.Watching old movies on this unit,
I hear things that I haven't before.
This was not the easiest unit to find, especially after cnet gave it good reviews

Great HTIB for the price

Pros: 2 HMDI, up converting dvd, divx playback

Cons: Remote is a bit awkward, I got the harmony to get around this though

Review: Got this as a package with my television and I am pleased all around.

I added the SWA-3000 and it works like a charm...I would recommend this unit strongly.

Great product with minimal issues

Pros: Great sound, HDMI, true HTIB for a Samsung HDTV

Cons: Not enough inputs (XBox) unit depth

Review: Bought on after-Xmas sale, $485, and it is impressive. You can spend a whole lot more for a better system, sure. But the average home couldn't tell the difference, including some so-called, self-proclaiming proffesionals. After years of trying to hodge-podge together med to hi quality components, I finally gave up all that effort and bought this system. Matches modern TVs style, sounds really good, and fits the average Joe's intent of a decent system for a decent price, and who doesn't have the time or knowledge to put together seperate components, and spend a lot less $. Quick to set up, and it really adds to the HD experience. I like it, it works perfectly with my SS HDTV, and it didn't break the bank. That's a winner in my book.

The unit is very deep. So much that I couldn't place it on my TV stand. But I shelved it above the TV, and it actually works better that way.

Abysmal Customer Service

Pros: none whatseever

Cons: Owned unit for 6 days..disc jammed..they require sending unit at your expense to be fixed

Review: The Customer Service department is non existent. I bought this unit, disk jammed , and now they tell me I have to pay to send it to who knows where to be fixed. Luckily my retailer is taking the unit back for a complete refund. Will never buy a Samsung product again.

Worked great so far

Pros: Lots of connectivitiy, Good sound

Cons: none yet! But I haven't tried DVD's

Review: Got a free mp3 with this. I got mine for around $200. Thank you sears for messing up pricing.

The sound is great. I can't turn the volume up because I live in an apartment, but it seems to hold up just fine. I did not get the tower speakers for some reason. I've connected my laptop and my mp3 players through usb. I'm looking forward to seeing how well this system plays dvd's. I'm pretty picky when it comes to good sound and this system meets my expectations. I've had family over and have received compliments on how good it sounds.

Good Features, Great Value

Pros: HDMI input, sound and picture

Cons: Very hard to find

Review: I got my Samsung HT-TQ85 about a month ago, motivated for the HDMI-input, since it is a great add on that will help you to keep the system for a longer time as different high definitions sources become available. The audio quality is great, but yes, you will need to adjust some settings, because the factory ones are terrible. The manual is useless. I had to increase the volume of my rear speaker to the Max., although my entertainment room is small. Also try increasing the volume of the center speaker and subwoofer. The front speakers sound good as they come out of the box. Done this, the audio quality I obtained was way better compared with my other HTIB system (Panasonic SC-HT940, now working on a different room). The Upscaling feature works perfectly. The Receiver is BIG, but won't over heat even if you crank the volume. The USB port... well, I try to connect my I-pod and Zune to it, and it just won't work. I am sure it will work with Play for sure devices, but I was able to connect my Digital Camera. Any way, you can use the other two additional co-axial inputs to make your AUDIO connections. I read users opinion complaining about issues with the system but they do not give any detail about what happened. Mine... started to give problems with the image (like if you where playing scratched DVD's), what I realized right away was a problem with my HDMI cable, when I replaced it with another one I had handy. So far it is been an excellent purchase and even better, I got it Brand New for $389.00 from COSTCO. Believe it... good information, because is hard to find.
I promise I will Update my review if any different comes by.

Bad Quality and No spare parts

Pros: None (I used for only 2 months)

Cons: Several operation problems and the required spare part is not available

Review: The service of Samsung?s guarantee forces to that a defective product enters three times to repair to a center on watch (more or less 30 days each time) before evaluating the product change. I bought the home theater HT-TQ85 six months ago and I only have been able to use it for three months because it had several operation problems and now, Samsung?s employees are still evaluating if they change the product although the required spare part is not available. In addition, the last answer was that I must wait for twenty days more so that an engineer authorizes the product change.

It?s incredible that they haven?t available a spare part for a new product, or may be ¿ too many complaints finished them?.?.

I comment my experience with Samsung, and I suggest that ask for the real conditions of the guarantee, and the real availability of spare parts. Think twice before to buy a Samsung?s product and investigate which is the true customer service and the real guarantee terms, because we can?t pay almost US$700 to receive excuses time and time again.

GODD VALUE FOR THE MONEY

Pros: PRICE , HDMI OUT,SOUND AND PICTURE ON DVD QUITE GOOD

Cons: LARGE CONSOLE, CENTER SPEAKER A LITTLE WEAK, SPEAKER WIRES INADEQUATE

Review: For the money this unit is good.I paid$689 canadian which is about as cheap as i have seen it advertised in canada. When watching dvd whith hdmi cable the picture is excellent as is the sound.I also wired the tv sound out to the unit and listen to tv through it and it sounds good. You do have to adjust the center speaker up to 4 or 5 level though to get good dialoge and i find myseld adjusting the bass depending on the programming, but i think this is normal. On the downside this unit dose not sound good in stereo mode or when listening to music videos. You can get some volume but the bass level has to be turned way down and it still sounds thin. Also the is no treble control. The remote control has very small buttons and is very crowded but i got used to it. But if you have big fingers or bad eyesight it would be difficult to use. Also the unit is large so check your measurements. One last note the speaker wire supplied is inadequate so be prepared to buy better wire.So in a nutshell you get very good dvd /tv picture & sound quality and just okay cd sound. If you like your music loud and proud you will need a seperate music system. Hope this review helps.

FRUSTRATING!!!

Pros: Ummmm, I don't know, it's black???

Cons: DOESN'T PLAY BURNT DVDs!!!

Review: A great system specs-wise, but here I am thinking my burnt DVDs will now be upconverted to 720p/1080i, and boy was I disappointed! It played some, but not all of my DVD-R's! What is going on?? There goes my DVD library! I had a SONY home theatre previously which played EVERYTHING I put into it... I guess it's back to SONY!!!

Great specs, sound terrible quality

Pros: HDMI in and out they only one I could find that has HDMI in. this unit has GREAT sound.

Cons: 5 DVD changer is circular making the unit very deep so that it does NOT fit on standard TV stand shelf. The volume knob on the front of the unit is NOT grounded static discharge distroys display.

Review: HDMI in and out they only one I could find that has HDMI in. this unit has GREAT sound.

5 DVD changer is circular (clockwise) making the unit very deep so that it does NOT fit on standard TV stand shelf.

The volume knob on the front of the unit is NOT grounded to the chassis, so any static discharge distroys LED display. Samsung (Koambra) cannot fix the unit. Samsung is very good at giving you the runaround and NOT standing behind warranty of failed unit.

DON'T buy based upon great specifications (HDMI in/out) because the unit will fail within 3 weeks.

A total waste of $450 for DVD Player/Amp that does NOT work.

Excellent System

Pros: Great sound, not too hard to set up, awesome picture quality

Cons: HDMI passthrough does not work with most cable boxes due to DRM restrictions

Review: This system sounds excellent with tv, movies, music, and video games. Im using a pelican system selector pro to compinsate for the lack of digital inputs. The HDMI input touted in the CNet editor review is useless with most cable boxes, but this is the cable boxes fault, not the HT-TQ85's. To add to the review, each "tallboy" has 2 midrange drivers and one tweeter.

Under $300? Buyer Beware

Pros: HDMI in/out. Good DVD audio playback, wireless rear speaker option.

Cons: Speaker material could be better. Could use another optical/coax input.

Review: I ran across this product on Cnet as it was featured in a section titled "Best all-in-one home theater systems for under $300". This product interested me but I ended up a bit disappointed. As of 12/5/06 I could not find one vendor selling this Samsung HTIB for anywhere near $300. The only dealer listed is a vendor specializing in refurbished goods which has iffy user ratings (see 1st user review on this product).

This HTIB should not be included with the other products which can be easily found for under $300. That's not to say it was never sold by a reputable dealer for $300 or less.....I just couldn't find one.

Do NOT Order refurbished!

Pros: HDMI Input, USB Input, Great Sound (when it works)

Cons: Red pixelation when playing DVD's, HDMI input

Review: Whatever you do do not order this from refurbdepot.com. I placed an order November 1st, the Product was supposedly "In Stock" with a shipping availability of 1-3 days. After 2 weeks of my order still "Processing", I called their customer service, it was a joke. After calling several times with no one answering I got excited when according to their system I was the 3rd caller in line, yet I was on hold for over 25 minutes! When I finally got through I was informed that the product was not in Stock despite their webiste saying it was not only when I ordered it but even at the time of the call. I was told it would ship in 3 days- 2 weeks later it was still processing. I finally recieved the HITB (that was advertised to ship in 1-3 days) 28 days after ordering it. When it got in the packing job was so bad the UPS driver did not want to lift it up. The speaker wire input jacks on the back were broken off the receiver. Still I went ahead and wall mounted the speakers, drilled holes, ran the wires, set everything up and was rewared with finding that the DVD playback included wonderful red pixels all over the middle of the screen, and the receiver struggled- popping and gurgeling- with the sound from the HDMI input. Clearly the stereo had not been "refurbished" but merely returned, poorly repacked, and sold again. Refurbdepot materially misrepresented the stock statues and shipping estimate (for the entire month their website never said anything but "In Stock") materially misrepresented the product as being refurbished, and had a non existent customer service department. Avoid that store at all costs.

I suppose ugly wasn't a rated area

Pros: sound quality, cost

Cons: butt ugly speakers with limited mounting options

Review: Are you really serious? Wall mounting those speakers would be ridiculous. It may be inexpensive and sound great but how am I going to convince my wife to put those in our living room?
