Pros Easy to use, simple to set up, replaces all my audio and video gear, great performance.
Cons Doesn't allow web surfing. A keyboard accessory would be great for that purpose.
Pros 1. The style is pretty sleek. Looks great in any living room.
2. Solid construction and built with quality parts.
Cons 1. The firmware upgrade bricks the unit. Don't do it!
Summary After upgrading the firmware, the system fails to load. I called Sony support and they recognize the issue and offered to send me a brand new unit. I refused, took it back to Best Buy, and bought a Samsung unit instead. Why Best Buy even puts this product on the shelf is beyond me. It's a broken product and the only support you will ever get from Sony is "sorry, here's another. Don't upgrade it this time."
Pros Good Sound qualiy.
Cons Lack of HDMI ports
Summary There is a lot of discussion about lack of HDMI input. Here are my 2 cents, Some folks mentioned that HDMI inpit is not required and one can connect all the HD sources to the TV using HDMI and run the optical audio out from TV to this system. Good idea, but what they do not know(or probably their TV supports that) is that the optical output from the most of the TVs(like all Samsungs plasma, LED) is 2CH if you use this type of connectivity. The output is 5.1 only for the DTV(air). Please check your TV manual and you will know. That is why having an HDMI input is imp. if you want to connect other sources like (HD cable box etc) and want to get 5.1. But If you do not care about 5.1 and are happy with 2CH then never mind.
Pros *The sound quality if fantastic
*Great to look at
*Wireless rear speakers (kind of)
Cons *I am hearing about a firmware update that crashes the system. I have not dealt with it yet, but I sure hope I don't...
*Comes with minimal cables (no hdmi, no digital audio)
Summary First of all, this system sounds incredible. I am no audiophile by any means, but I am a hardcore movie fan. We played the blu-ray Independence Day and it blew us away. The opening audio cinematic where the sound runs throughout the speakers was clear and crisp. We actually started laughing because it sounded so great.
The setup was relatively easy. I tend to be very stubborn and try to set things up without the manual, but I definitely needed the manual a few key times.
Yes, the rear speakers are wireless, but there should be an asterisk next to this. They are not wired in to the main unit, but they Are wired in to a separate wireless unit. So basically it's another box hidden in the back (called a sound amplifier) with two cords running out of it so that the two rear speakers and function.
In terms of the HDMI issue, there IS an HDMI IN, and if you don't have a gaming system, there is no need to worry. I set this unit up for my parents who do not have a gaming system, and there was no problem. I connected the cable box with an optical digital audio cord, and we were good to go. But I do understand that if you have an Xbox360/Ps3, this probably wouldn't be the best system...sorry friends.
My only complaint is that this system does not come with an HDMI or optical digital audio cable. Companies need to start including these items standard.
Overall, I feel like this is a fantastic value. My parents bought this product for $499, so with the $30 HDMI and $25 digital audio cord, the total ended up being about $555 before tax. Not bad for a Blue-Ray surround sound system.
"Poor sound"on by nzaf
Pros Internet connectivity, nice interface
Cons Very bad sound. The sound is confused, tremble is almost absent. No possibility to adjust Bass/Tremble
Summary BDV-E770W as well as the flagship BDV-E980W have terrible sound, compared to other brands, even cheaper ones. BDV-E980W has everything BDV-E770W lacks, but the sound is the same.
If you don't care about sound quality and you only need HDMI, WiFi, BD and all that staff then go for it despite the price. If you really think that sound and picture are the most important things for a Home Cinema then you should avoid it. Just listen to it in a specialized shop and try to distinguish the high frequencies: they are not there. Listen to music: everything confused. Try to personalize sound: no possibility.
