  • "Best Blue Ray Home Theater Package"
    4.5 stars
    on by skyreview

Pros: Fast Blue Ray, Excellent upscaling of regular DVD's (1080/60P), Great sound for a package, wireless rear speakers, Included Wifi, DLNA and HDMI 1.4, Reduces clutter in living room.

Cons: Very little so far, Remote could be better, it is not programmable. System could be a little faster when switching inputs (minor inconvenience though)

Summary: Switching from separate component systems and speakers to a home theater system was a difficult decision for me as I have been an audiophile and videophile for as long as I remember. However, the home I am in now has all hardwood floors and I wanted a system for my living room that had good form factor, reduced clutter, and sounded and looked good. I researched all the options in the market with a budget of $1,000 for a quality home theater package. This was by far the best one out there. For anyone looking for a quality sound and video package that is also clutter free and has the latest technology, this is it. A lot of the prior reviews are shallow in that they don't explain the technology on this unit well. This unit features the latest HDMI, which allows yousound to return to the unit from the TV. As a result, it does not need to have several HDMI inputs that people are complaining about. The same HDMI cable used to send sound and video from the Bray player, receives any sound from any unit that is connected to the TV. So if you have a PS#, XBOX, etc connected to the TV, you will be able to play that sound thru the surround system. Picture quality from regular DVD and Blueray blew me away. Sound quality is very good for a package system, the wireless rear speakers are awesome - no more running wires to the back. Best of all, I do not have the 4 or so component systems cluttering up my entertainment center anymore. I would recommend this system without hesitation to anybody that is looking for an excellent home theater package for their living room/family room. Only reason to go the component route would be if you are building a real home theater in a large basement and want multiple subwoofers and real 7.2 or 9.2 sound.

I've had mine for almost a year. Replaced a receiver, dual cassette deck, 5-CD changer, turntable, and speakers with this unit and an iPod. I use the FM tuner in the Sony. I use Pandora for most of my music needs. It's connected via HDMI to my Sony 40" Bravia LCD flat screen TV. We watch Netflix through the built-in internet connection and Blu-ray DVDs. This is the only system I need. The system is neat, clean, easy to use, an the audio and video performance is better than anything I've ever owned. The 5.1 audio has me looking over my should occasionally to see where the sound effect/conversation is coming from, but that's all part of the fun! I spent less on the Sony Home Theater in a Box than for all my other gear combined, and it sounds much better. I haven't touched my song collection (or iPod) since I got Pandora on my HTIB!
