Pros Nice lines; surround sound is decent for a small room

Cons DVD player is notoriously lousy - Not enough in/outputs to add a separate dvd player to fix the problem

Summary Returned the first unit, upon set-up, to Crutchfield for replacement. Used the next one for one year. Two weeks after warranty ends the dvd player flashes standby until the unit is unplugged/replugged and it won't eject or play a dvd. Rarely even used dvd player the entire year we had it. Talked to customer (non) service & was told I should have purchased the extended warranty as insurance! I thought sony sold electronics, not insurance - must be a new business venture for sony. Two cust. reps said the $500 unit should be expected to last longer than one year, but so sorry can't help with warranty - send more money for repairs. One rep says "you never know with dvd players....." and another had the gall to suggest I not buy inexpensive products because sony is such superior quality - what does quality mean if the unit doesn't work? I thought I could trust sony as in the past, but due to my experience w/ customer (non) service & investigating reviews post purchase, I realize their newer products are NOT BUILT TO LAST. I used to buy sony no questions asked, but will never buy another sony product again....ever.
A notice popped up asking about the abysmal rating of "1" I gave this product - This rating is deserved by Sony due to: lousy customer service; their knowledge of the problems with this unit & not recalling the unit; and for my being able to only use a portion of the unit after just one year. Should have bought surround pieces separatly.
