"Easy to set up, but wireless is overrated & DVD is slooooow reading"

by stforte on September 26, 2005

    Pros: Easy to set up

Cons: CD/DVD player takes forever to read disks

Summary: I bought this system because I wanted to minimize on the wires but i regret not having bought the wired version for $200 cheaper. Apart from the fact that the rear speakers are wired to each other and require a power supply, unless you are really a high end user two more wires really wont make a difference. I haven't had any reception issues yet due to interference with the infared signal to the rear speakers but trust me -- wreless is overrated.

Secondly, two years ago I bought an entry level HTIB which had very comparable performance. While the DAVFX100W was extremely easy to set up (color coded everything), even for a complete novice like me, the DVD player disapoints BIGTIME. It takes forever to load a CD/DVD. Even if its already loaded and you're skipping between CDs, you better expect 10 seconds while the display says "reading". Seriously if you dont remeber which one of the CD slots has your favorite CD you better get ready for a looong wait.

My system is in a room with two entrances, to other parts of the house. Without the nifty wirless connection for the rear speakers, I would have had to:

1: Splice the 15' supplied wires to make them longer.

2: Run the in the open, along the ceiling, or drill through the floor, run them through the under-house crawl space, or worse yet, thread them under the carpet, to get across the doorways!

"Overrated" wireless connection? I think not!!

I've been looking to purchase this product, but along the way, having done my research, I have noticed a large price drop for a model which just came out 1-2 months ago, its just not normal. But yes indeed, it is overrated, and not entirely "wireless", since the read speakers not only have adaptor but the two have to be connected to a hub of some sort. U noted that for $200.00 less u would have purchased an older model, but I mean my friend u cant necessarily compare the two. First of all this system totals 1000 watts, which the other does not, the design is by far better looking too. And of course SONY realized that they have somewhat mislead consumers about it being WIRELESS etc. that is why they offer a $300.00CAD rebate and on top of that the latest price of this model here at BEST BUY CANADA is $800.00 CAD. And apparently it is overpriced, u can purchase a better sounding YAMAHA system for about the same price. SONY once again, its in the name, and SOnys not in the finest shape these days..
