"Great sound and superb if you want the surround sound in only 2 speakers"

by BostonNick on October 5, 2005

Pros: Great DVd player--1080i and superb sound

Cons: not much to be honest....bass is kind of big..but that's it

Summary: I bought this about 2 months ago and have been waiting to see what others might think of this. I wanted surround sound and a 1080i dvd player but didn't want all the speakers.

I got this and it worked out beautifully....

The DVD player is amazing and the sound is impeccable. It connects via HDMI or component, but keep an open HDMI slot for this when you get it. It's worth every bit of the upgrade. It comes with a FM and AM tuner, and 4 other video sound connections if necessary, includes the DVD/cd player slot. I connected this using digital optical audio cable and it is the best yet. The sound is untouchable for only a $30 cable. Compare that to Monster audio's that run in the hundreds of dollars... Digital is the best sound you can get now.

All and all, it is a sleek and very well worth the $$$ if you can put it up. Run a price check on froogle for it...you can find the best price that way!!

The HDMI does provide both audio and video, however the audio is of no consequence because it is already originating from within the DAV-X1 system. Only video is needed to be sent into the television, since the TV speakers aren't needed.

Using the optical cable will assuredly provide the best audio quality because it is only dependent upon the reflection of light through the optical cable and will not be interfered with by electromagnetic interference. The way this setup works is when you desire to have your television/sat box/cable box's audio piped through your surround sound (and who wouldn't with this system?), you simply use the optical for audio and HDMI for video.

Hope this clears some things up.

If you connected with HDMI, then what's this talk about your other cables?

    I appreciated your review.
Would you clarify how you've connected to your TV? You're using the HDMI connection, but then you explained that you established the best audio yet using digital optical audio cable. Doesn't the HDMI carry the audo along with the video information?
    Thank you!
