Really A Great Deal

Pros: Really Great Sound, Fully Featured, Great For Music, TV, FM Broadcasts, and of course DVD's

Cons: I can't think of any, I love everything about this system.

Review: I had an old Sony Dolby Pro-Logic (nothing digital or optical) receiver, that I got about 12 years ago. One of my front speakers blew, and I was looking to buy a new set of surround speakers.

In the process of pricing out speakers, I stumbled across these Home Theatre in a Box systems. I was very skeptical I have been an audiophile for many years, my perspective has always been to buy expensive high quality components.

I read hundreds of positive reviews on this system, they are on the websites of on line sellers (Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.). I couldnnt resist trying it.

For me it was fairly easy to set up because I already had the wires in place. I hooked it up yesterday.

In short I am very, very impressed with this system. The digital effects are great, sound is really great, and it seems to do well from all sources. The small speakers are a plus because I now have a lot more free space in my living. And then when I think of how much I paid for it, I really love this system.

It's not perfect, as other reviews said you have to really turn the volume up high to get real volume, the volume control goes up to 65, you will probably be playing it mostly in the 40's and 50's to get the kind of sound you want. But the sound is plenty powerful and as loud as I could possibly want in an 11 x 20 living room.

I connected my DVD Player via coax, and my cable box via Optical cable. Great sound and effects. It sounds pretty good playing CD's on my analog output only CD Player. FM sounds pretty good too , the tuner is decent quality.

And finally believe it or not, my wife and I enjoy this system much more than we did our old one.

I reccommend this to anyone, on a budget, that wants to exoperience the full depth of digital audio and surround sound. It really is good, check it out.

AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME

Pros: Sound Fields are phenominal! Price is EXTREMELY reasonable!

Cons: Subwoofer wire is not upgradeable...

Review: I purchased this system on sale from Best Buy after searching and listening to many other systems. The price is what attracted me initially. The Sony name has been and still continues to take the cake. Sony earns the TOP QUALITY award once again! I already have had one complaint from a neighbor that I listen to my music TOO loud and I tried to tell him it was not the volume level but the THUMPING of my subwoofer which "KICKS MAJOR BUTT!"

Best home theatre for the price.

Pros: Many inputs, great sound, great value.

Cons: Subwoofer could have been more capable.

Review: I bought this system when it was on sale. I had previously owned a very expensive Technics system, which did not have optical inputs and did not have Dobly 5.1 or DTS. I found this Sony system and decided to go with it. It sounds just as good as my expensive, yet older Technics system, and it is much smaller. I highly recommend this system to anyone wanting low cost, high quality home theatre sound.

Excellent from every aspect

Pros: A budget friendly home theater that won't tear your wallet. Excellent surround sound for the price. Gives you everything it promised

Cons: Wireless for the 4 small speakers would have been great.

Review: We received this as a wedding gift from my friends (Thanks guys!) and my wife and I have never been to the theater again :)

It is very easy to install and at that price it won't leave you with a guilt either.

The only reason I gave it an 8 is because there is no wireless option and there's always room for improvement.

Really nice system for most needs.

Pros: Good sound clarity, excellent value.

Cons: Not super-powerful, though more than adequate for most people.

Review: I dig it. I got a ridiculous deal due to a local store being out of a cheapie system I asked for (knowing it was likely out of stock), but I honestly think it is a nice system. The clarity is good, it has enough inputs/outputs, including optical in, and it has more than enough power for most of us. No DVD player included, but you have 2 already anyway, right?

You can find better, no doubt, but for the price? That's a tall order.

Great sound, great price.

Pros: Excellent sound, great price for a Sony, all the decoding options you'll need with any player on the market today.

Cons: Slightly complicated remote control/menu system. Should go a little louder (but I may just be deaf).

Review: Bought this at Best Buy for ~$200. Took it home and set it up in less than 30 minutes. Been using it now for over a month and have had no problems. Great for music and movies; it does a good job of turning 2-channels into surround sound. Lots of options for an entry unit. Sometimes I wish it would go louder, but with how much it shakes the house I bet my neighbors would think otherwise.

I Found a GREAT SALE

Pros: Outstanding Sound!!!

Cons: Short speaker wire

Review: I found a great sale at Fry's Electronics. They are selling this unit for $149.00 until August 8th or 9th (I can't remember). I'm not sure if all of the stores are running the sale, but I live in the Las Vegas, NV area, and our store has it on sale. This is not listed on My Simon or this site for some reason, so if you are looking to buy, now is the time. Don't just check their site because the stores have different pricing at times--call the store.
Thank you to all of the people who take time to review products. I spent days researching before I chose this Sony product and you really helped me make up my mind. I already have a good DVD player, so I didn't want to pay for another one--most box systems include one. I also had an opportunity to listen to this unit at Fry's and was shocked at the quality of sound. Unless you listen to your music at deafening levels, the 600 watts will be plenty for you. I don't even turn mine up all the way, but when I tried it, the speakers really delivered! This system is easy to set up, so don't be taken back by the people who said that the directions were confusing. If you can hook up speakers to a receiver, you can set this up. Everything on the unit is clearly labeled. The speaker wires are cheap, but they seem to do the job. You really can't go wrong with this unit. Enjoy!

All you could want in a budget home theater.

Pros: Easy to set up and has all the good features that a home theater should have.

Cons: Doesnt have very many device inputs.

Review: In my opionion this has to be the best budget home theater. It has all the features that should be required in a home theater, like Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Pro Logic, and Pro Logic 2. The only desapointment that I have is the lack of device inputs. This model only has 2 pairs of RCA inputs, 1 Coaxial Digital input, and 1 Optical Digital input. As for the sound, this home theater has very good sound to it, its no Bose but its pretty close.

Incredible Sound, not a lot of coin!!

Pros: Great sound, a variety of sound choices, sub rocks!

Cons: Where's the video switching???

Review: I am impressed with this home theatre's sound. In a medium sized room - it does everything quite well. Also, it offers a variety of soundfields (some of sony's own) as well as the standard ones - Dolby Digital, Pro Logic II, and DTS decoding. The eight inch passive sub is a winner - nice boom for your room. The only caveat I have is the lack of video switching - If you have an older tv, you'll need to get a box to switch the video inputs ($20.00). This is a great system for a small to medium room - for $200.00 (this includes the video switching box), you get a heck of a home theatre experience.
