  • "Great and affordable way to add HDMI inputs to your HDTV"

Pros: Under $100, automatic switching works well, small design

Cons: Bright LEDs can distract, no remote (only a con for some)

Summary: I was looking for an easy way to add HDMI inputs to my Sony 40" XBR LCD that has only one HDMI input. The Philips Automatic HDMI Switcher SWV6813 fit the bill. I picked it up for about $85 on sale and it seems to be doing a fine job. I have a PS3 and an upconverting dvd player which leaves 1 input left for HD cable or an HD tivo if I ever go that route in the future. Please note that although the product indicates support of 1080p I am using all 1080i signals as my LCD does not do 1080p, however, the picture looks fantastic and it passes the digital stereo sound through as well. Please note that I have not tested the uncompressed digital surround audio formats because my Denon receiver is not HDMI capable. If anyone owns this product and has tested PCM uncompressed, Dolby True HD or DTS Master Audio through it, please post your results. Well, aside from the bit too bright LEDs in the front, I am very pleased with this product. I just set my TV to the HDMI input and the unit recognizes which device I power on and switches to the input with the most recently turned on signal. Manual mode lets the user decide which input they want to use by pushing one of the 3 input buttons on the top. The lack of a remote may bother some people, but I have enough of them and the auto feature does the work for me anyway. Nice small footprint (about the size of a closed Nintendo DS lite) lets you place it anywhere or even out of the way if you want. Using three sets of 2 meter Monster HDMI 400 cable.
