By the end of a week in Myanmar, we had clicked our way through 1,000 photos and were seriously in need of a photo organizer. Fortunately, we had Microsoft's Digital Image 2006 Suite--a slick application trio designed specifically for sorting, labeling, editing, and sharing digital photos. The three tightly integrated programs in the suite--Digital Image Library (organizer), Digital Image Editor (image editor), and Photo Story 3.1 (simple slide-show creator)--are feature-rich and a snap to master. The intelligently designed interface and ubiquitous help make this program especially appealing to the casual user, but more serious photographers will find a wealth of heavy-duty editing features lurking beneath the friendly desktop.

Microsoft added quite a few new features to the 2006 version, including better organizing and editing tools and camera raw file support. Plus, the full-featured editor gained a black-and-white photo effect for colorizing, plus improved panoramic stitching with better control over the finished product. It may be a little pricey at $99, and it requires a gluttonous 400MB of disk space, but if you have mountains of photos that need organization and don't want to puzzle through jargon-filled manuals, Microsoft Digital Image Suite 2006 is an excellent investment.

Product is misrepresented. Contary to advertising on box, must be running 'xp'.

Pros: Many good edit features.

Cons: Microsoft Photo Story requires Microsoft XP to run.

Review: Microsoft Photo Story is bundled with the suite, and that requires Microsoft XP. Packaging states it will run on other operating systems.

Simply Simple

Pros: Pretty good Photoshop alternative

Cons: not for the advanced

Review: This is great for the basic users that just want the cool features of a photo-shop software. Adobe is the ultimate, but this is great coz its soooo simple.
Gr8 product, i'd recommend this for beginners

Very basic

Pros: Ease of use

Cons: Not as good as basic photo editing software

Review: Typical Microsoft software, (other then OS and Office). Rather expensive for such basic photo editing options. When any adjustments are made to photos they look fake or washed out. Very limited. Photo Story is nothing much. Loaded 577 photos, program can only handle 300. When music added, there is no option to fade in or out when photo #300 displays, everthing goes dead. Made a test CD and the quality of playback on DVD player was poor to say the least. Default photo time is 5 seconds, with transitions, the photo is just seen before it fades away. Need to set each individual photo for viewing time. The Picture It software that came with my Nikon camera is a much better editing program. I was looking for software that would make a slideshow with ability to set batch transition and viewing times. This is not it! Returned to store and got money back. Tried XP movie maker first and that was a joke also. Any advice on an excellent Photo Slideshow program with unlimited ability on size of slide show, batch transition and batch vewing times?

Probably the best for the money

Pros: Cost, auto functions, speed, organization of pictures

Cons: You have to read the book.

When the house catches fire and burns down, what do people greive for and can never get back no matter the cost? Their photos. That's how much mine mean to me.
I bought this based on functions, ease of use, and cost. I've got old software, but I've got XP Media Center and there were too many freezes and reboots. I got it for $80, but I have a $30 rebate coupon.
It's really easy to use after you start to read the 276 page manual and understand what the icons do. There are tips on better ways to take pictures, scanning pictures, transfer pictures, and of couse, how to edit them to make them look better.
The software package uses 2 CDs and takes about 20 minutes for a full download which includes clipart, borders, stamps, frames, mats, etc.
I've used Photoshop, PhotoEssentials, and PhotoDeluxe. This is the easiest and most creative package I've used so far. I am amazed at how accurate the auto-correct functions. There's even one for cell phone pictures. Most of my pictures don't need any other corrections after using these. It's easy to organize and find pictures with ratings, tags, and folders. IT also has an archive reminder so I don't forget to save my pictures on CD. I take copies of these CDs to my work place for safe keeping. This is money well spent to touch-up, restore, archive, and print my pictures so easily.

For the beginner and the Pro who needs to be efficient

Pros: Simplicity

Cons: Needs a dual window for comparisons

Review: This is a powerful program with a simple efficient interface. For those who make a living handling a large volume, it can't be beat. Most pros cannot afford to spend a lot of time retouching. They spend most of their time shooting. You don't need to be a photo retouch specialist to use this program. This is a program that will allow you to spend more of your time shooting rather than trying to figure out how to retouch.

easy to use with good results

Pros: Easy even for the novice, auto fixes work fine

Cons: Not a lot of special projects with it.

Review: I have used their products for awhile. For fast touch ups, croping, auto fix it is very good. I also have Digital image pro and picture it 10 by microsoft and they all work fine/

The BEST Photoshop Alternative on the market!

Pros: Simple to use, easy to imprort from multiple sources, EXTREMELY stable, can handle harger files with ease, and it's also very cheap for the features included

Cons: There is no trial version

Review: I work at a University and have been teaching a training workshop on this software suite for about a year. I have yet to have 1 complaint. It's really that simple.

This program comes with a TON of upper level digital editing tools that even the most die-hard Photoshoper will appreciate. You can do everything from removing red eye, to applying filters, cropping, resizing, organizing, applying filters, and a whole host of other options.

I personally actually went out and purchased this program on my own even though I already have access to Photoshop CS2 through work.

Bottom Line: This is a great product that is worthy of more respect than the low price asks for.

Easy to Learn and Use

Pros: Easy to Use and Learn

Cons: Slow Openning

Review: Received this free with Publisher. If you are familiar with Microsoft products, and like how they are set up you will love this product for photo editing. Allows the user to make one click image adjustments or to tinker with different color and appearance levels individually as you become more familiar with it.

A very slow process

Pros: Fades available in vcd

Cons: No hand held manual.

Review: Product excludes a hand held manual. A download version available but it does not work! When making a vcd, you load one picture at a time, very slow and timely. Special effects are the same way as well, one at a time. My needs were not met, onto Adobe 3.0.
