"Great product for the price"
Pros: Lots of options, great picture, charges iPod.
Cons: Fair iPod integration, screensaver doesn't seem to exist, does not have dimmer wire control.
Summary: Recently purchased this product and installed it in a 2001 Dodge 1500. This product works as advertised and has a slew of inputs and outputs such as 5.1 pre out, dual video output, camera input and the AV link cable which has a 3.5mm audio input as well as 1 composite and R/L audio input, and an iPod multiplug.
iPod integration is very plain, don't expect to have the ease of use the iPod affords, but to listen to music in random and have access to the songs on the built in 7" screen this unit does just fine and keeps your eyes closer to the road and off the iPod. Video playback from the iPod was the downside to this unit, you can not access video files from the head unit so when you choose to play iPod video, the iPod disconnects from the Head Unit and you have to choose the video file on the iPod itself as if you were playing video to a tv. The iPod also seems to stop charging when not synced to the head unit.
AM/FM radio control is straight forward and onscreen info and channel memory is very nice to have. Strength of the AM/FM tuner seems to fine and on par with a Pioneer reciever I have in another car.
MP3 cd playback is very nice and the onscreen controls and info is more than sufficient. DVD playback stole the show, video is excellent, controls are easy to learn and the inclusion of 5.1 decoding results in excelent sound with multiple speakers installed. This unit does not have a center channel amplifier installed so you will have to power a center speaker seperately, the 5.1 speaker configuration allows for phantom if the center speaker does not exist in your car however. There is a menu item that allows to turn the screensaver on or off however this option doesn't seem to work and the manual refers to it but doesn't elaberate how its used or implimented.
Operating the unit with the screen closed is no problem due to the keys located on the bottom of the unit. The single line backlit LCD screen gives plenty of info. The only downside is that you do not have access to audio controls other than Volume when the screen is stowed.
The setup menu allows you to define if the screen will deploy on powerup which is nice if you want to keep it stowed and manually deploy it. When the ignition is turned off the screen will automatically stow after about 10 seconds.
Many people are complaining that the exclusion of satellite radio is a downside, however, Dual is going to offer a new model with this option. For those that already have satellite radio, the Aux inputs allow you to connect to this unit. Overall this unit offers more than I expected in its price range, and for the average consumer it will provide all your needs and then some.
