Disappointing product from old & valued stereo name

Pros: Reasonable price, good CD player operation, good HD AM radio reception, good non-HD FM performance, face-mounted USB and Aux ports

Cons: Poor FM HD performance coupled with HD seek overriding FM signals, weak AM tuner, poor durability, Bluetooth adapter not compatible with all phone brands, remote not backlit

Review: When I bought this from Amazon, it was billed as "Bluetooth equipped". When I received it and had it installed, I found it was NOT BT equipped, but only BT-ready. I bought the Dual BTM60 Bluetooth Interface Module, only to discover that my phone model (LG VX8300) was not supported or compatible with the BTM60(the BTM60's manual-actually just an instruction sheet was a bloody joke). Luckily, I was able to turn the over online for just a small loss. As far as the HD radio, even when I was close to the source, reception kept going in & out, after trying the factory antenna, and two different aftermarket antennae. Talking to a retailer, they said that Dual's HD radio performance was generally weak compared to JVC's or Kenwood's. One day I was driving down the freeway listening to an AM sports station, and suddenly the signal was cllear and clean, and the HD logo had appeared. I had no idea there was such a thing as AM HD. That's the good news. The bad news was that it's a Fox station, so who cares? I really enjoyed plugging my mP3 player into the unit, but since the remote is not backlit, it's unusable at night. I spoke to Dual's staff, and when I mentioned a remote that was backlit, they said "Boy, that's a great idea. Why didn't WE think of that!" Subsequently, I spoke to Crutchfield, and they know of NO car audio remotes that are backlit.
Just after the 2 year warranty expired, one channel went dead. I'm not one who plays music loud, and usually listen to the radio, so I hadn't mistreated the unit.
Bottom line: I won't buy Dual again, but I got what I paid for

HD works great in showroom - not so great in dash

Pros: Plenty of cool features like HD, USB plug-in capable, easy to follow instructions, removable faceplate.

Cons: HD does not work very well while driving around and I have not found a way to turn it off. Annoying while trying to listen to a broadcast that keeps going in/out of HD.

Review: Would not recommend this product unless your whole life is lived within 10 miles of your favorite radio station broadcasting in HD. Remote suddenly quit working for no known reason - not dead battery and it has never been dropped/sat on. Fortunately, all functions are button controllable on the faceplate as well.

Car Toys sold and installed unit for $100.

Bad HD / non HD reception

Pros: Support for USB and MP3

Cons: My factory radio can get AM chan very clear. This Dual radio can't even scan a single non HD AM chan. Took the radio out and checked cabling. Everything was secure. FM HD / non HD are working.

Review: I live and drive about 30 miles from Boston downtown. I can't believe I cannot ever get regular AM channel. If you have AM channels you want to listen, I recommand do more research before you buy this.

Easy to use, feature packed, very good sound, locked onto HD stations easily.

Pros: Lots of features, easy to use, nice sound, great reception, and add'l BlueTooth adapator worked well with LG TRAX for call reception.

Cons: Minor: Cannot find list of phones that work "better" with bluetooth adapt. Light does not dim with dash lights. Bigger difference in preset EQ choices.

Review: Unit looks good, works well, sounds great. With the addition of the Bluetooth adaptor we can answer calls on our LG Trax ATT phones. It will transfer calls back and forth between the radio and the cellphone for conversations over the car speakers or privite on the phone. Displays incoming phone number. Would not auto answer even when set up for it, so we have to push the "Talk" button to answer a call. Life's tough.
Could not get my Trax to stream music via bluetooth, oh well, just have to use a USB SDMicro card reader in the USB slot on the front of the head unit. It also has a 3.5mm Aux in that I've not tried yet.
Oh and it plays music! The slot load CD player was crisp and clean, radio locked on 10 HD radio stations in central Arkansas and they do sound as good as a CD.
There are a number of preset EQ settings with only a little difference between them. But it does sound good. I did use a power line suppressor from RadioShack to keep out engine compartment noise over the power lines.
Easy to set up and use. Wish it had come with wiring crimps so I could have installed Christmas day, but did not know that until package opened that morning.
For $180 this was one is a no brainer in value. Now lets see how long the unit lasts. If more than a year then I got my money out of it.
