"The DEH-P6000UB doesn't have the iPod support promised in Kevin Massy's review"
Pros: Good sound
Cons: Non-intuitive menus, weird defult display settings, bad iPod support
Summary: Kevin Massey's review persuaded me to buy this unit because it promised the option of iPod control from the iPod itself instead of from the very limited screen and menus of the Pioneer itself. He writes in the review:
"However, it is while connected to an iPod that the DEH-P6000UB is happiest. The DEH-P6000UB's menu structure and control interface are designed for navigating iPod content. With an iPod connected, there are two options for car occupants: either they can opt to transfer all control of the iPod to the stereo faceplate (as with most other iPod-specific stereos), or they can select "Passenger control mode," which enables control of the iPod's music using the player itself--a feature that shows that Pioneer has really thought about the design of the DEH-P6000UB from the perspective of those in the car."
This turns out not to be true. There is no such option as "Passenger control mode". Having combed the User's Manual, I found there is only one model of iPod that the unit allows iPod control - the Nano second generation. That's it. So I am stuck with a very poor substitute of limited search options on a screen which cuts off most of the titles.
This unit is tough to use and poorly thought through. If you buy one, have fun getting rid of the "reverse mode" on the screen. Phoning Pioneer won't help... they don't know what it is. It causes the screen to flash every ten seconds for no apparent reason and I have given you a head start by giving you its name. What were they thinking?
Note to Pioneer: Simplify, learn from Apple's lead in user friendliness and bring out the full iPod control that Kevin's review claims you have. We want to control our iPod's from the player itself, not from your half baked interpretation of it on sucky screen. And don't make the default screen a fireworks show for 14 year olds. Weird.
Engineers who go to car shows are designing these things instead of product designers. Somebody out there please take the lead in producing a stereo that your mother could use right out of the box. Stop building them for techies.

The above user is dead wrong. It does has passenger ipod control. Just hold the band button for 3 seconds. It's also very easy to turn off the reverse display. This is all covered very clearly in the manual, he should have read it. Its a great unit. My only complaint so far is that the display is too dim in sunlight.

I just installed my 6000 and I absolutely love it! I do not know about the passenger control mode but I do know that to get rid of reverse mode, you hold the band button in the bottom left while turning on your ignition and it'll get rid of it. The sound quality from this Head-Unit is on the most impressive that I've ever heard! I would recommend this to anyone! Check your local walmart too! All of the ones in my area have it on clearance for 150$!!!
