"Print Head is Cheap-Quality"
Pros: Fast printing initially, waste-ink reset code available
Cons: Print head fails within a few months, requires slower printing for recognizable print-outs, uses a waste-ink pad, tends to cross-contaminate ink cartridges (Canon brand)
Summary: For the first five months (apparently no warranty nor return), it made some descent print-outs for graphics and photos. Now, it prints everything in dark green while the cyan ink cartridge keeps running dry; the cyan ink finds its way to the other cartridges. Despite buying this printer new, I had to reset a "waste-ink" error (8 orange flashes) using a code found from searching the Internet (pressing the Reset button didn't clear the error). Also, I had to disassemble the printer to get to and clean the waste-ink pad. I don't understand how the pad became so saturated in such a short time period, after occasional use. Most of time, the print head was parked.
As if the printer didn't have enough problems, it also leaves streaks and white dots, even at the highest quality setting. I learned that the print head is not functioning correctly using the "nozzle check", and a replacement costs nearly the same amount as the printer. The print head didn't last five months.
In short, the Canon i850 is expensive for a disposable printer. I think I'll replace this with an Epson.
