"Photo Prints are Lab Quality!"
Pros: Small, light and Prints great pictures!!!
Cons: At this price I have to say none
Summary: I spend a few nights searching the net for a high quality photo printer similar to lab quality. I read all the reviews and then set out on my own tests of current models. I took my own photo paper a (generic high gloss plus pack from staples) and my memory card from a Sony 7.2 mega pixel camera. I tested varies models from HP, Epson and Canon. Of course, I could only test the models that accepted memory cards and all did a good job.
However when I tested Pixma models I was impressed. All the shots were clear, crip and color accurate.
Canon has many models but you can break them down into two groups. Units that print using 1 pl drops or 2 pl. The smaller size drops (1 pl) where better and I would give those units a 10 plus.
The iP 1700 did not have a card reader built in and printed at the larger droplet size of 2 pl. But it appeared to have the same "engine" as the unit I tested so I took a chance.
I was right the iP 1700 does excellent 4 x 6 photos that are lab quality. The cost of this printer was only $49.95 before the rebate. I paid less for this unit than replacing one cartridge on my other printers. The bottom-line this unit is really a 10 for its price and quality printing. Only rated it at a 9 to leave a little room for the much more costly models Canon sells. This unit should not be overlooked based on price. It does an outstanding job and should be rated much higher.
