"Excellent printer, you wont regret buying it" on by Dave600000

Pros: photo quality printing, very fast, very quiet, feeds from 2 paper sources, inexpensive

    Cons: wont mow the lawn

Summary: i have no idea why the editors rated this under a 7 because this printer is simply amazing. ok, it doesnt have a parrallel port connection, but does anyone really need 1? it uses usb just fine. i bought this for under $50 including shipping on ebay and cant understand what more you could get by getting a higher priced printer. i had considered getting the ip4000 or ip5000 but i figured i dont do much photo printing so i went with this. after printing a photo when i set it up, i cant see how the other models could be much better. it looks like i just brought the photo home from the photo lab! setup was easy on an XP machine. i havent tried duplex printing yet but im sure it works fine. oh and as far as how loud it is...after the initial click which isnt very loud, it produces almost no noise at all while printing. run your finger over a piece of paper from side to side a few times, thats about the noise that it makes. other than the initial click, you could print while someone is sleeping in the room. if youre considering a printer, just buy this one, you wont regret it!

"Fast, full featured and affordable, cheap ink is available" on by Knightcrawler

Pros: Fast, excellent photo quality, cheap ink, good print driver

Cons: Software package isn't that Great {no Adobe software}, bread box looking

Summary: The text quality is nearly laser like. Even in draft mode the text is very clear with no feathering and it's very fast at 22 ppm.

I use good paper very bright at 106, paper quality is always essential to every printer on the market today.

Auto duplexing is very useful and can save a lot of paper for reports since it prints on both sides.

Two paper feeders are essiential with the different paper today. I put regular paper in the top feeder and photo paper in the bottom. The bottom feeder is great and easy to use for all kinds of different paper.

The PictBridge is going to be uninversal so having it is standard. Most new camera's have this feature.

Auto-off saves power and wear and tear, I have it set for 15 minutes this is great cause I usually forget to turn the printer off.

INK: High Quality ink can be purchased for $3-4 dollars per tank and the print quality appears 99% as good as OEM.

The Look of the printer is not as pretty as the HP printers which have a lot of flash going for them. The Canon's bread box look may not appeal to people but it does function very well and has features that the HP does not. It also a lot cheaper when it comes to refilling the ink. HP's cost a small fortune to run.

PS: My old Canon bubble jet 2000 is still alive and kicking after 5 years of use that's Canon reliablity.

    Updated
Direct CD/DVD printing can be enabled with a simple mod.

"Trouble free and cheap ink" on by bittermac

Pros: Less expensive ink, great price, and trouble free install.

    Cons: Nothing so far.

Summary: On sale at Fry's for $79.99 but comes with a $20 mail in rebate. Installation was trouble free. For those who don't print often, closes up tight to keep the dust out. Prints text nicely and photos are crisp and clear. Black ink cartridge is double sized and one of the least expensive on the market. Would buy same model again with no hesitation. Great deal!

"Excellent starter printer" on by scayf

    Pros: Cheap, quiet, great results

    Cons: 8x10 paper size limitation

Summary: Seems like the folks who are getting bad results (including Kristina) need to learn two words: settings and calibration. I've gotten great results even printing 4 megapixel images from my FZ15. With my FZ30, even better results. I've run several hundred prints off mine in the past eight months or so with no problems. Slow? Jesus, how fast do you want it to spit out a print? You people need to learn patience.

    I just ran off a 24 meg TIFF, 8x10, in less than 2 1/2 minutes. You can't wait a lousy 2 1/2 minutes for a print?

    Jesus...that's pathetic.

"I wholeheartedly recommend this printer for home photo printing or graphics." on by mainepoetry

Pros: Very good photo printing. Ink consumption low. Ink prices very good as well.

Cons: Have not found any problems yet.

Summary: As a home photo printer, I think this fits the bill. If one uses the enclosed software, and reads instructions, there will be no problems. I am very satisfied. I just printed 8 1/2 x 11 photos and am still shaking my head at the quality. (I am not associated with Canon in any way.)
