"Quality very good" on by ceijake
Pros: good text, very good photos
Cons: Seems a bit slow
Summary: I bought this printer a few weeks ago to compliment my new digital camera, but also wanted to be able to use it for text. I'm very happy with the quality of the prints. Text is good too. A bit slow all around, but I'd rather have quality than speed.

"Easy to use quality product, who's in a hurry anyway?" on by loudpedal
Pros: Quick setup, big cartridges, better lookin than my 3000
Cons: Fast for small jobs but a couple hundred duplex takes a while.
Summary: This is my third Cannon printer all under $200, they all work great but keep getting better.

"Great Printer" on by tONYV49
Pros: Fantastic photo printing
Cons: Very hard to find the large black pigment cartridge
Summary: The IP4200 prints very good black and white photos. I use it mainly for this. Like I said before I have been all over trying to find the large black ink cartridge. I hate to have to otder it through Canon.

"NOT Mac Compatible!" on by lephtee
Pros: Front loading cassette lets you stick the printer between shelves
Cons: No drivers for networked Macs
Summary: Canon has not released drivers for Macs that use this printer over a network, so unless this printer is plugged directly into the Mac's USB port, it probably won't work.
If you want a printer you can plug into a Windows PC and share with the Macs on your network, don't but this one - it will not work. It also doesn't work with most wireless routers that provide a print server. -
"OK at home/not OK at work" on by jimnorb
Pros: print quality/paper handling
Cons: slow speed/ink cartridge availability
Summary: I’ve lived with my iP-4200 for a few months now and, for the most part, am satisfied with its output quality but am very disappointed with its speed. The printer is connected to a 600 mHz iMac via a slow speed USB port and that may be part of the problem. But its predecessor - an i560 - was considerably faster overall while connected the same way.
Too, I was able to buy generic cartridges for the 560 but not so with the 4200 (so far).
I guess I would give the 4200 4.5 stars out of 5 for output quality but only 2 or 5 for output speed.
If anyone has some insight on the speed issue I’d like to hear it.
