"Stop your search, you just found the Best Photo Printer..."
Pros: Print quality, speed, CD/DVD direct printing, wireless.
Cons: None that I have noticed.
Summary: When I decided to buy this printer there were not many reviews about it because it was a fairly new product (Jan 2006). So I decided to read some reviews of an older model (ip5000) and due to it?s very high user rating and since this ip5200r is not only a newer model but it also has the plus of being wireless, I decided to give it a chance. And what a good choice, I couldn?t be happier with it.
Since the moment I started unpacking everything and setting it up (putting the cartridges, etc..), I noticed the difference between a Canon printer and the rest of the printers of different brands I?ve had before.
The set up and installation was easy. How easy? Well, I guess depending on the level of expertise with these toys, could take a few minutes more or less but it?s certainly something anybody could do with no problems. I have it connected to my wife?s desktop via USB while it?s also working with my laptop through the wireless network.
OK, Lets talk about what is probably the most relevant part of this review; the printing quality, which is perhaps what you want to know in order to make a decision of whether to buy it. The quality of the prints is excellent. As soon as I finished the installation I printed a few 4x6 borderless pictures and all I can say is? wow! Beautiful results. I Couldn?t see the difference between these and photo lab photos. And that is without any previous work on my pictures, just as they came out of my Sony 5 MP and my Canon Rebel XT. The text quality is also great. The printer is also very fast and quiet in both picture and text.
Do not expect a pocket printer, it has it?s size. My wife says it?s kind of bulky but I think is fine. See it this way: If it was smaller you would not be able to print nice 11x8½ pictures and legal size documents. Some people tend to think of a photo printer as something small but this one is not so small. I think is just a matter of taste.
Using this printer is a joy. It has a lot of features and options. I keep the lower cassette full with regular sheets while use the upper tray for photo printing. Some user reviews made mention of something about pictures coming out with odd lines when loaded from the lower tray, so instead of doing that and then criticizing the machine, I just do it the right way and get the right results. I also added the printer to my scanner?s driver and now I got a nice copier machine. Another cool feature of this printer that is actually not enabled but is up to you to make it work is the CD/DVD direct printing. It is really nice; I ordered the tray from E-bay (around $35.00) and after a simple configuration to the European version it was ready to rock. It takes less than one minute from the wireless computer to print onto a DVD and trust me; it looks almost like the original. Go to http://pixma.webpal.info/IP4200/index.htm and you will find everything you need to know.
The build quality is very good. It looks and feels solid and sturdy.
If you are looking for an excellent photo printer that is also great with documents and don?t care about the size, don?t hesitate to buy this one. For just over $200.00 is one of the best wireless photo printers out there now.
The price of the photo paper (Canon photo paper plus glossy) is very reasonable: 4x6 120 sheet pack for $14.00. I have not purchased ink yet but I have seen it for around $11.00 to 13.00 a cartridge.
Beautiful pictures, versatility, build quality, CD/DVD direct printing (optional), wireless, document printing, high ?very high- speed, individual ink tanks? The conclusion couldn?t be another one: Highly Recommended!!

You posted a raving review of this printer in Jan of this year, do you still feel the same way about it? I cannot find one anywhere on the web or local retailers. Do you know of any?
