Cons: Using the Cassette is useless.
Summary: I bought this printer and was very excited about it until I printed a photo from the lower cassette and notice horrible scratches all along the paper. To make a long story short I have had three replacemants from Canon now, all with the same problem, but worse. Canon so far has only one solution, keep sending me printers. I have been searching for other people with this problem, so that we could contact Canon as a group. I have been so far unsuccessful in having Canon look at one of these printers to see the problem for themselves. I find it hard to believe after having four of these printers that I am the only one with this problem. Canon really needs to pick up the ball on this one.

I cannot believe you haven't changed it to full quality...of course it has lines your printing in draft mode...duuuuuuh!!! the same thing happened to me one time and i changed quality and voila...problem solved...some people just don't think. geeez.

The problem us men have is that we do not read supplied instructions. If the machine states that photos are for the top cassette only then why do you insist on using the bottom. Sometimes we take things to the extreme. The Printer is excellent when we stick to directions.

I print 8.5x11 pics on glossy photo paper all the time from the bottom cassette and never have seen scratches. <br>This is my second Pixma printer.

The cassette is simply there for you to print documents from so that you don't have to change out your "photo" paper from the top feeder. I wouldn't print a photo through any kind of "roll over" printer. Only the straight through kind. You always take a chance when you force the paper to make a U-Turn!

The bottom, duplex tray was desinged to be used for duplexing, either on the "double-sided" photo paper or regular paper. If you use the Canon double sided paper in the bottom tray, it will NOT scratch. This is by far the BEST canon photo printer out, I mean, 9600x2400dpi and ONE picolitre, along with 100 year inks, I have used this machine in our store for over 5 months now and it has NEVER scratched photo paper.

Just got mine for xmas... printed 10 pics so far 2 have scratches at the bottom

My Canon printer scratches any type of photo paper, the cheap stuff and even Canon's own Premium High Gloss paper. I tried the top loader and the cassette, both have the same effect. I will be returning this printer soon.

Same issue with several paper types. When I switched to canon paper the problem was eliminated. I think its a feature! Anyway I can find competitive canon paper so OK by me

You should be printing the photos from the top feeder not the bottom feeder. The bottom feeder is really intended for plain paper. <br><br>Anything in the bottom feeder has to make a U-turn and that can cause a problem when you have thick paper like 10.5 mil photo paper. The problem gets worse the bigger photo paper you use, 4x6, 5x7, 8x11, so don't use the bottom feeder for photo paper.

I had a similar experience with the infamous "tire marks" on my Pixma iP5000. I contacted Canon and they guided me to the bottom plate feature. That helped some but the tire marks are still present. The printer then suddenly decided to tint all photos yellow and all the blues are now purple. Canon ink and Canon paper! I'm trying to get permission from the vendor to send it back.<br>I posted a review here several weeks ago describing these issues but I see that it was not added to the list.

This user post for the IP5000 states a similar problem and he was told to run the bottom plate cleaning feature; and according to his post it solved his problem. Perhaps the IP6600 does not have this same feature. If not you may ask Canon to get you the IP5000 instead.<br><br>Hope your problem gets solved.<br><br>Troy<br><br>Updated<br>by neilmortimer (see profile) - April 28, 2005<br><br>I stand corrected, (yay!)<br>The "tire mark" roller issue has been corrected by running the bottom plate cleaning feature. It seems odd that one should have to run this straight from the factory, but thank god the feature exists! Now glossy prints come out clean and just as sexy as the printer. Thank you Canon, for this gem of a printer. 10/10!
