    Pros: Good photo quality

Cons: chips on ink cartridges, high cartridge prices, ink level information (an absolute must know on this printer) is a five step proceedure to get to.

Summary: At first I was in love with this printer. Then I found out about the ink cartridges. They have chips on them. Forced to purchase them from Canon, a set of 6 will cost you $105.29 (more than 2/3 the price of the printer, check the prices below) from Canon if you live in California!
What adds insult to injury is that the chips fail, rendering the printer useless until the offending cartridge is replaced with another expensive cartridge.
Canon states that the use of these chipped cartridges are needed to keep the warranty in force, but I don't believe their ink is THAT special. I believe the chips are there primarily to force the owner to buy ONLY Canon cartridges.

I like the printer, but in my opinion Canon should give the printers away since you will be hooked on buying expensive ink to use it. I primarily print text on my printer and rarely print color photos, but I like having the ability to print color photos if I want to. I noticed the color ink levels were going down when I printed a text page and since I hadn't printed any color photos I couldn't explain why. The next thing I new my printer wouldn't print text because the ink was out in some of the color cartridges and all I can figure is it evaporated because I hadn't used any color ink. This has me totally disgusted with my Canon printer since i'm having to buy expensive ink that I haven't used in order to print regular text pages. I'm looking for another printer now that doesn't use so many ink cartridges and hopefully the ink won't evaporate like my Canon has done. I like my printer and I hate to stop using it, but it doesn't make sense to continue buying color ink when i'm not using it and my printer will not work unless there is ink in all 6 cartridges!

I've had a Canon i470d printer now for several years and the cost of the ink is one of the best things about the Canon products. I'm considering buying a iP6700D and when I read this comment, I thought "Really", so I did a little research.<br><br>There are a NUMBER of places online that sell CANON ink (package of 6) for $76.00. Heck for the price bouldercreekgreg is quoting I can buy a full CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System) for ! (not a bad idea BTW).<br><br>I'll take the price of Canon ink over HP any day of the week.

Try http://www.eink4u.com/rechin1.html. It documents how to tranfer the chip to their non-Canon branded cartridge.
