"Color is great, but there are thin vertical black lines about 3/4 of an inch apart on my 4x6 photos."on by PatGinigerSnyder
Pros Great color. Fast.
Cons Thin vertical black lines
Summary I am on my second Epson R380 in two weeks. Both printers are printing thin, vertical black lines about 3/4" apart. With the first printer, I worked with an Epson Techie who said there was something wrong with my machine and to get a new one (I purchased it via Epson). No problem in ordering another brand new printer. It arrived expeditiously. But I am having the same problem with this printer as well. I am wondering whether it is a computer problem, as all of these photos are being printed via the computer. I am wondering if anyone else has had that same problem. If it can't be fixed, I am going to have to return this second printer as well.
Pros Quality of picture prints; connectivity support
Cons Somewhat noisy; design could use some work
Summary The print quality on this printer is quite fantastic -- especially photo prints. Regular printing is average to below average, but then again this is a photo printer.
What's surprising about this printer is it's near 'plug-and-play' support for Windows Vista 64bit Edition (my OS) and routing through a Netgear print server. (I realize this won't be the setup for 99% of people using this printer). I imagine that it's plug-and-play for all versions of Windows.
It's really unfortunate that there's no 'silver bullet' printer for everything. I guess the right match up is a printer like this with either a black-and-white laser or color laser. Probably strikes the right balance of print quality with print job and cost/print.
Cons ink can be costly but its expected (or shoud be) for qualitly. and of course can fluculate from moderate use or seldom use
Pros Great job of printing on printible CD/DVDs. Makes a professional looking product. Prints great 4 x 6 borderless photos (but counting the cost of ink and paper, they are probably around $0.50 each!) Very convenient to print from USB thumb drive or camer
Cons Uses way too much ink (or else their new cartridges don't hold much!) Can't refill cartridge because it has a chip. Tried two company's remanufactured cartridges with very limited success. Be cautious because it appears Epson has a way to prevent anyth
Summary I feel like I did not get my money's worth out of this printer due to the high cost of the ink and the short life span. I loved the printer when it was working, but cannot afford to risk buying another one like it. I spent top dollar because it had great features I wanted, but in the end, it was a huge disappointment. I would not recommend buying this printer, and I will not be buying a replacement.
Pros The LCD is nice, print speed was pretty good
Cons Terrible print quality, very expensive ink, doesn't work
Summary Do not buy this printer!!! I bought it because Cnet said it had great photo print quality, and it was on sale.
The print quality is not good at all. It does some "color fixing" thing that is supposed to improve skin tones in your photos or something, but ruined the color balance in all of my photos that were not of people's faces, and you can't turn it off. The photos were grainy and didn't look nearly as good as the same ones I had printed at Walgreens. Granted, I did not use Epson brand paper, but I refuse to give this company any more of my money for their expensive proprietary products. A lot of my pictures had lines running through them, and when I printed out text, it always had a slightly blurry look.
Also, you can only print a small number of photos on high quality before the thing runs out of ink. I think this is part of Epson's strategy to sell you a cheap printer and then make you buy expensive ink over and over again.
To buy new ink in all of the colors costs $80 to $90, which is almost what I spent on the printer to begin with!! Why not just buy a new printer every time it runs out of ink?! The printer is so stupid that there is no black and white option, and it will not print anything if one of the cartridges is empty. Our yellow cartridge went empty, and we could not print out anything, even in black and white. Then, to top it all off, when we put in the new ink cartridges, the printer did not recognize some of them, so we still cannot print anything, and I am not spending even more money on ink in the hopes that we will get some cartridges that work. This printer is a scam and a piece of junk, and I am definitely not purchasing an Epson again.
