"Waiting for the great results"
Pros: Seems great, like the 17 x 22 print size, and B&W features
Cons: The ICC profiles haven't worked as advertised
Summary: I have used Epson for years (1270,2200,R800). I ordered the 3800 the day it was announced, and I was very excited. Unfortunately, the ICC profiles have not worked as well as they should. Using the same workflow as my R800 (which produced a great print), the only way I could get a satisfactory print (not great) was to let the printer manage the color (not Photoshop with the supplied custom Epson profiles) and choose the generic 3800/3850 Standard Profile. After spending over $1300 for the printer this is pretty disappointing.
One other note: I was quite surprised to see that Epson says that the required minimum Mac CPU is a G5 or newer Intel chip. I have Photoshop CS2, OS 10.4.8, and the recommended RAM (2GB), but my Mac MDD Dual 867 apparently isn't up to snuff. My experience is that the printing speed isn't much slower than my R800 on letter sized prints, despite my "under powered" Mac.
I haven't talked with Epson Preferred tech support yet, because they're not open on the weekends. Hopefully, they'll have an answer.I still expect this to get ironed out and that the 3800 will do a great job
