Summary Anyone can make a mistake, and CNet is no different. Maybe it was a bad printer they receiced. I have a Photosmart P1000 and its excellent, so when my daughter needed a new printer (the old one was an HP Deskjet 660c 1995 era, still excellent for school projects at least for text that is.) for university, naturally we looked at HP especially a printer that used the same large capacity ink cartridges as the P1000 the HP 45 & 78 cartridges are great and no they are not rewally that expensive to replace. (wait for sales then buy a spare) What I found was the HP Deskjet 6122 that filled our needs perfectly,(duplexer, high speed pages per minute etc.) that is until I read the CNET review, I couldn't believe it, because the P1000 uses the same print head/engine as the other 900/1000 photosmart series (we use a few Deskjet 900 series here at work). I'am glad that I used my own judgement from past HP products and bought this printer. I got it at Staples here in Ottawa, Canada for $249.00 Cdn dollars, which is still a good price for a printer. I Thank all you fellow reviewers, for your positive review, (I just knew HP couldn't let their loyal customers down) Also thank you "HP" for an excellent printer, perhaps you should send another Deskjet 6122 to CNET for a re-review, it must have been a bad printer, bacause the staff at CNET do know how to test products, and the review site is still one of the best. Still in the end you have to be the untimate judge, and if you know your company's (HP's)reputation, you will will make the right choice in the end.
Pros Speed - we print a LOT of paper.
Cons Noise - but it is an ink jet.
Summary I have four HP printers runing now and this is my second 6122. My first is running with my wife's new Mac (that's another story) and this one is going to work with my daughter's desktop. We love the speed and have not noticed the lack of sharpness in Cnets review. My only worry is that someday they will stop making ink cartridges.
Pros Automatic double sided printout, no grinding sounds when jammed.
Cons A bit noisy.
Summary I got this printer from my local LUG,
plugged it in and already am seriously impressed with the printout quality.
As I do not use Windows, I feel HP is the ideal brand, as their printers are well supported on Linux and Mac OS X.
The draft quality setting is far from true, as on Linux, it produces very good quality documents, just like the normal setting.
Would recommend this printer as an ideal first-time printer to anybody.
Pros Unbeatable reliability. No paper jams!!!! not a single one! Duplex printing. Fast even if sub par by other reviews. I've printed at least a whole box of paper with this printer and it prints clear crisp text and graphics.
Cons A bit noisy. Not a good photo printer. Photos are grainy.
Pros This is a great printer for webtv owners. I think its about to be discontinued by HP as I could not find it at any store in Houston, so I had to order it on-line from Page Computer in California. This unit was very quiet and it did not spit out any pages.
Cons Haven't found any yet.
