Pros Excellent quality output, ink dries quickly, good for prepress tests
Cons Very slow to print out high dpi pages. 8.5x11" 600dpi pages take ~5'40" to print out
Summary We bought this because we were impressed by its output quality and claimed output speed. Turns out that they output speeds that they post on the box and website are not in the least realistic. Most people buy a high-quality output printer for... high-quality prints. I know I'm just stating the obvious, but shouldn't the box state how long it take to print out high-quality prints as well as when it is runs in economy mode? It took us 21 hours to print out 210 pages of a full color catalogue at 600dpi, you do the math. We had to buy the duplexer so we didn't have to babysit it, and that works great because the ink dries really quickly on the HP Brochure double-sided paper. But if you have a deadline and you're relying on this printer to give you quick, high-quality output, then buy a color laser. If you have lots of time and are a very good planner, then there is no other printer on the market with as good as output as this printer. One more tip, do not buy new cartridges, at $40~50 a pop, they are way way way too expensive. Buy the ink refill kits, HP 57 - C6657AN Color Refill Kit and HP 58 - C6658AN Color Refill Kit and refill the cartridges yourself. You can refill each cartridge for about $5/each instead of $50 for a new cartridge. You might get your hands a bit dirty the first time you try to refill yourself, but trust me, after the 10th refill, and you have an extra $900 in your bank account, you'll find that putting up with the dirty hands is worth it.
Pros Print quality is great! I have to agree with some reviewers. Use only HP premium plus paper or equivalent paper. HP premium plus is made in Switzerland. I've found other brands that are cheaper than HP made in Switzerland also. Made in the same factory as
Cons Cartrigde usage. Slow in printing. Canon much faster. Cost of cartridges. Buy on the internet makes up for that negative.
Pros prints good jpeg
Cons does not support larger images
Summary I contacted technical support and they recomended printing all images in jpeg. I suggested this defeated the purpose of newer formatted cameras, they told me jpeg was the industry standard.
Pros Good quallty, decent print speed, ability to print without computer
Cons Changing ink cartridges requires calibration each time even when changing image to print black
Summary This was by far the best printer I'd found in many years as far as being able to make usable prints and still keep up with everyday printing jobs.
As a freelance photographer I seem to print lots of photo's and although dye sup is fast replacing inkjet because of the durabilty, this printer is still a great tool, I use it still for contact sheets and printing tests to make sure I have the photo the way I want it...
If there were one improvement I could make it would be to use seperate ink cartridges for each color.
But still a very good value at the price. This printer even stands up closely to my photo printers for my studio
Pros Great print quality. Outstanding value if all goes well.
Cons XP stopped recognizing it. When I re-loaded the s/w I kept getting an "Access Denied" error which was not resolved by downloading the patch to address this issue from HP.
