Pros Prompt Delivery
Cons 1 Unit Recieved Did Not Work - Replacement Unit Did Not Work For The Same Problem
Summary Received the 8250 promptly after ordering and tried to set it up. The unit could not load the paper for a test print, neither regular inkjet nor glossy paper would work. Contacted online help and an hour later they sent me another printer. Much to my suprise HP sent me a remanufactured unit! Guess what! It did exactly the same thing!! I called this time (India naturally) and had a really difficult time getting the service person to understand the problem. I finally held the phone by the paper feed and let him hear the sound the unit made trying to load the paper! Oddly enough he recognized it and understood the problem - this is not a good sign!!! The conversation went down hill at that point so I asked for his manager. His reply was that he would call me in 24 to 48 hours and I replied that I wanted to speak to him now and he said that I would have to wait for 25 minutes!! Much to his surprise I said OK! This is where it gets interesting, his manager went through the same set of steps to try to get it to work and I let him hear the resulting grinding sound as the paper jammed!
He then said that another manager would call
in 24 to 48 hours with the offer of a different printer. I asked, why a different one and he replied that another 8250 would probably have the same problem!
So, my congratulations to all of those who have working units! I have an old HP printer, which has worked well for a long time, and a HP Media Center with an AMD X2 processor and love both! I find the lack of quality of the 8250 really sad but not necessarily surprising. I work for a large computer company and know how we are buying components for price not quality!
Pros separate inks; clear display; card slots
Cons unreliable with light use
Summary After enjoying at least 4 previous HP printers this is the first one that has been broken more than it has been usable. I bought the first one in Dec05 and it was ok until Mar06. I called HP..they sent a "free" replacement (refurbished). It seemed ok till mid Apr06 when it broke. Called HP again..the Quality guy said I would get a new one not a refurb..10 days later a refurb arrived. This one was broke from the start. Now have 2 broken units and only one box in which to send it back. Called HP and asked for full refund of original purchase price (now waiting for a Cust Serv supervisor to call back). The only good thing I can say is each time they send another printer they send another full set of inks so now I have lots of ink for a printer that doesn't work. Did not get a chance to see if it printed photos good or not. So far, has cost me $30+ extra for gas to pick up replacements and ship the defective ones (HP pays for the UPS charge). If the first one had been reliable I probably would have given it at least a 7, maybe more.
Pros When you can get it to print, it has good text.
Cons Keeps saying it is out of paper.
Summary I will never buy another HP printer or computer again. I have had problems with both and think they are junk. I have never had problems in the past with other HP printers, but this one worked for a few months and then it is impossible to get it to print the first time or even two pages in a row.
Pros Awsome quality when you can get it to work
Cons Paper feed problems make it unuseable
Summary After about 3 months of light useage, the out-of-paper error started to show up. At first I could tap the tray; later, I had to reshuffle the input tray; successful feed became a rare occasion. After a dozen trys with no pickup, it would grab 5 sheets and jam. I went into the basement and dusted off the Epson Stylus Color 600.
Pros Quick when it feeds paper, nice prints.
Cons constantly replacing ink, & it constantly says it's out of paper when it's full, paper jams a lot because I have to push the paper back so far.
Summary I'm sure there's a better printer out there!!
