    "Design flaw" on by WGPhaneuf

    Pros: Great design

    Cons: Destroys photos

Summary: The printer has a major flaw that has not been corrected by three replacements. When the printer runs out of paper there is the usual prompting. When the paper is replenished and "OK" is touched, the first photo is destroyed. The first sheet has virtually nothing printed on it. On the second sheet, the first 25% of the image is missing. The next 10% is highly distorted and the remaining 65% is OK. This has happened with photo paper from both trays, but mostly from the 4x6 tray as that is what I use mostly.

I bought one in Sep06 and it was replaced 3 times. All 4 units destroy the first photo when paper runs out and is refilled. I'm now fighting for a full refund!

"Inconsistent Quality, Frustrating Print Behavior" on by mrbula

Pros: Well, it's kind of pretty for a printer.

    Cons: Everything else.

Summary: I really regret not waiting until there were more reviews out before purchasing this printer, but hope my experience can be of use to others. Full disclosure: I have a background in print publishing (and generally have had good experience with HP's professional equipment in the past), so my expectations may be a bit out of whack for a consumer product.

That said, the print quality of the D7360 is substandard at best, and the software included with it deserves its own place in hell. There are a wide range of issues I've encountered with this machine, but I'm going to focus on two of the most frustrating ones:

    1) The print quality is inconsistent at best. I've had a number of cases where I've printed out the same image a number of times in a row, without changing any settings or options, and have received images that differ noticeably in color balance and quality. The overall quality of the prints have declined over the month I've owned the printer as well, with the occurrence of good prints becoming increasingly rare. (Changing the cartridges and cleaning the heads hasn't helped.) On my most recent project I eventually broke down and sent the images to Walgreen's.

    2) HP's approach to "borderless" printing is, in a word, stupid. Instead of "borderless," they should call it "oversize the image and crop the edges." While I see why such an approach may make sense for novice users who don't understand that the proportions of their digital images don't quite match the proportions of the paper they're printing to, for someone who is used to preparing files in Photoshop, it's completely frustrating. I spent hours trying to figure out how to get around this bug only to learn that it's a feature that cannot be removed.

Overall, unless you like pulling out your hair over prints that look like they spent an hour in a dishwasher, I strongly recommend staying away from this printer.

"Wonderfull end results" on by zwaving

Pros: the photo you took is the one that is printed

Cons: paper tray for 4x6 needs monitoring for multi prints

Summary: My everyday camera Canon A-620 reproduces religiously that which I found in the viewfinder and clicked to capture. That very same photo, in every way is reproduced on film no matter the size of print I require.
Photo fix on printer not same as when I use the PC but then I seldom trust anything other than my photo editor for that chore anyway.
This is a fabulous printer and any hobbyist would be glad to have it on their desk.

"Okay, but frustrating to use" on by JStrnad1

    Pros: Generally, this printer works.

    Cons: Frustrating to use.

Summary: I can't get the 4x6" tray to feed paper at all. Maybe it's a software problem. I don't know, and HP's online help is no help at all. Sending an email to ask for help involves digging out my receipt to find the purchase date (required), which is just more frustration. I guess I can make that up, find the serial number and provide all of the other information HP requires, but I wish I could just ask my question.

I've figured out that I don't need the 4x6" tray, but can just feed 4x6" paper in the regular tray if I position it just right. But I've wasted ink and paper experimenting and getting annoyed.

The ink expires, even while the reservoir is largely full. Using expired ink voids your warranty. I guess if you don't print a lot of photos you wouldn't be buying a photo printer, which means I shouldn't have bought this printer in the first place. Which I wish I hadn't.

Overall, it works kind of like a teenager that you have to beat with a stick first to get his attention, then supervise every motion so that ultimately it would be easier to do the job yourself. I'd have come out way ahead in time and money just taking my memory card to the store to have the photos printed.

"Nothing but problems" on by EvilVillan

    Pros: Very nice photos

Cons: Slow printing, grinds, paper jams...

Summary: First off it started out (just out the box) to have paper feeding problems. At the same time it started sounding like it was grinding gears. Then it wouldn't feed the 4 X 6 paper. Contacted HP and was informed to clean the feed roller (now have to do about once a week). Switched to the CISS ink system and after 2 weeks it died and shut down printing completely. "Ink system failure, Error 0xc18a0401." Nothing HP suggested works to fix problem. Worst printer I ever owned!
