"A sexy, smart printer with one unfortunate flaw"
Pros: This printer has absolutely stellar print quality right out of the box. When it's printing you can scarcely hear it, and when it isn't printing, it just looks so darn good!
Cons: Major problem - when you print glossy photos from the bottom paper tray the rollers remove the gloss from the paper, causing roller marks to stripe your entire image. Some scratching evident.
Summary: If this printer were a bit more gentle with the paper it would be a 10 no question, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to handle glossy photo paper well enough, with the roller problem above being my major gripe. It seemed like a wonderful thing to simply be able to keep this great looking thing on my desk all closed up with paper loaded, all you have to do to print a photo out is drop the paper support down and hit print. Sadly any glossy print has to be done through the top feeder otherwise you get those nasty roller marks. Even feeding through the top though there is some very light scratching on the page surface that marrs an otherwise stunning print. It's pretty astonishing to me Canon didn't resolve these issues before launch, but I guess the problems were too difficult to solve, so the result is a very sophisticated print head design with a clumsy paper feed system. 7/10. *sigh*Updated
The "tire mark" roller issue has been corrected by running the bottom plate cleaning feature. It seems odd that one should have to run this straight from the factory, but thank god the feature exists! Now glossy prints come out clean and just as sexy as the printer. Thank you Canon, for this gem of a printer. 10/10!
